An early trailblazer in the fight against HIV/AIDS and a staunch and outspoken LGBTQ+ ally, Elizabeth committed her time and energy to the cause when her friend and co-star Rock Hudson was diagnosed with AIDS prior to his passing in 1985. Elizabeth went on to become a co-founder (alongside Dr. Mathilde Krim) of the first AIDS research center amfAR, and later founded her separate Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in 1991 with the specific focus of providing nutritious meals (as well as medical and financial assistance) to people living with HIV and AIDS. She also lobbied the U.S. congress to contribute more money for AIDS research and education, devoting the last twenty-six years of her life to the cause. After Elizabeth passed away in 2011 at the age of 79, a large portion of the $115,932,000 raised at the Christieâs auction of her legendary jewelry collection was bequeathed to her charity in order to continue providing the services and assistance she believed were important in perpetuity. Still actively raising funds today, Elizabethâs grandson Quinn Tivey is now an officer and co-trustee of her foundation. Reflecting on his grandmotherâs humanitarianism and advocacy, he recently stated: âThe fight against HIV/AIDS was such a vital part of her legacy, and although the fight is far from over, Iâm honored to see the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation continue her work, educating legislators, raising awareness for the public, disproving myths and decreasing fear and stigma. Grandma stood up for what she believed in, living boldly and courageously. She would never buckle under pressure, and she certainly would not support the status quo if the status quo didnât feel right.â
@hotvintagepoll I know itâs after 1970 but people should know just how incredible Elizabeth Taylor was
The organization is still around!
From her 1987 speech at the National Press Club:
âI became so incensed and personally frustrated at the rejection I was receiving by just trying to get peopleâs attention. I was made so aware of the silence, this huge, loud silence regarding AIDS, how no one wanted to talk about it and no one wanted to become involved. Certainly no one wanted to give money or support, and it so angered me that I finally thought to myself, Bitch, do something yourself. Instead of sitting there getting angry. Do something.â
âthe secondary characters donât have as much interiority as the leadsâ well yeah you see none of these people are real, they exist within a limited narrative framework and by the very nature of their functions donât get as much development as the focus. hope this helps.

"it would be so good if it was good" will haunt you but "it's extremely good, except for the one or two parts which are so bad it's genuinely kind of insulting" will straight up drive you insane
one has you making posts like "okay but if the author UNDERSTOOD the POLITICAL IMPLICATIONS of the story they were telling, and leaned into it, it would actually be a really interesting exploration of..."
the other has you pacing your bedroom at one in the morning going "why. why would you ever in a million years do it like that. genuinely what possible thought process was involved. was the writer possessed by a fucking ghost or something."

Psych is such a weird show bc in a lot of ways it's constantly asking, "can you forgive your father? even tho he could never forgive you, can you forgive him?" and the thing he could never forgive you for was not meeting his exact very specific expectations. And the answer keeps being yes you can, because not doing so is worse. You tried and it hurt more. You tried and it made you more miserable. You forgive him because he's all you have most of the time, and its somehow less complicated than whatever you have going on with your mom. You can forgive him but you can't forget, and then one day he realizes that he was wrong and there was nothing he should have taken as a slight about you, but you both just never acknowledge this paradigm shift in your relationship bc it'd be more awkward then fighting again for the millionth time. So things get better but you never say why, you never acknowledge it unless forced and somehow you forgive him more than your mom who you were never even half as mad at.
But also it's about breaking and entering into sea world and making a janitor think you killed your best friend so you can escape, it's about gaslighting your coworkers into thinking you are the dumbest man alive, it's about only closing a mystery when it's as funnt as possible and making sure everyone else around you is as baffled as possible. It's about childhood and nostalgia and growing up in the most chaotic way you can. It's about people being killed with a t-rex skull, it's about slapstick and committing to the bit and being the silliest messiest bisexual on tv in 2006-2014.
It's about a son and his father and forgiveness and somehow also they are in a circus tent trying to find out why a corpse was launched from a cannon. And also there's an extended musical episode that makes it onto my personal Spotify year after year
They're currently not on speaking terms. When I thought Jamie was dead, I married him. I was about to be arrested as a spy for the Continental Army, and John thought the only way to stop that from happening was if I married to a British officer.

"I love these hands, especially the right one, because that's usually the hand that I hold" is a line that has broken me forever and I am never going to forgive Shawn Spencer about it
thinking about that scene in Shawn Takes a Shot in the Dark bc god that was a brilliant reveal. the way they have Juliet take on Abigailâs role in the story but itâs not actually real and then itâs that one-sided Revelation of Romantic Feelings that is just another sucker punch to the stomach along with the rest of the episode since itâs a little more serious than the rest of the show. like juliet and Shawn have been fairly clear-headed and focused (esp considering shawnâs situation) during the ep so far but when he says âi love youâ and then âgoodbye, abigail) you get to see that emotion so strongly on their faces and you can tell how heartbroken they are. it kills me every time
