Abel: Earthbender who uses a more sturdy and solid technique, making his offense much stronger but not as fast adapting.

Airyn: An incredibly skilled airbender.

Amir: Sandbender that mastered the art of bending glass. He's the leader of his tribe.

Arma: Airbender.

Artt: Earthbender that uses his bending to create sculptures and other art pieces.

Barry: Airbender. Got no specifics on him.

Bathsheba: Waterbender. Also no specifics yet.

Beau: Non-bender but she's like Suki. Agile and fast.

Ben-Hwa: Tbh waterbender seems plausible and I will not expand on that further /silly

Betty: Waterbender who mastered healing. She's also able to soothe mental troubles with her bending.

Beverly: Waterbender bartender. No further comment.

Bobby Pinn: Non-bender but they have weapons like Mai (throwing arrows, blades, etc.) that helps them in their crime life.

Bodhi: Airbender. Not much I have on him just yet. But he's having fun with his bending, being really good at techniques like the airball, the air scooter or the airwheel that helps him travel from A to B.

Cabrizzio: Earthbender that has some more flowy movements and techniques. Learned them from waterbenders.

Cam: Earthbender that can go mole mode really well. Basically digging into the earth and just travelling underground like a mole.

Captain Jacques Pierrot: Non-bender who thinks of himself as a waterbender.

Celia: Very skilled earthbender, also the queen of the earth kingdom in this AU.

Chairemi: Airbender with a talent for the airwheel and with enhanced speed.

Chance: Firebender real good at defensive moves.

Connie: Firebender that mostly uses projectile attacks (similar to guns yk)

Curt & Rod: Both airbenders who primarily use their bending for mischief. Trial and error led to them mastering the travelling techniques of airbending (airball, airwheel, air scooter, etc.)

Daemon: Airbender who mastered spirit projection.

Daisuke: Waterbender. I think he'd be quite good with ice discs.

Dante: Incredibly skilled firebender.

Dasha: Earthbender with exceptional strength, singlehandedly lifting boulders and such.

Diana: Airbender. No further comment.

Dirk: Airbender who likes to use his bending to get away from Harper from time to time.

Dishy: Waterbender but I got nothing else on him.

Dolly: Earthbender who learned earth tunneling from her companion, Lint Eastwood (who is a molebunny in this AU)

Dorian: Earthbender with quite sturdy and rigid movements. He's mostly on the defensive side with his bending.

Doug: Non-bender. Got nothing else on him because honestly I kinda dislike him.

Dunk: Earthbender. Tbh I see him as a teacher in it.

Drysdale: Airbender. He primarily uses his bending for dancing and performing.

Eddie: Earthbender who discovered and eventually mastered metalbending while in prison. His earthbending is very crafty and adapting.

Fantina: Airbender. Skilled in air blasts and such techniques alike.

Farya: Waterbender. Master healer, the doctor of her tribe.

Florence: Non-bender, the lady-in-waiting of Celia.

Freddy: Waterbender who specializes mostly in ice techniques.

Friar Errol: Airbender. Tbh air nomad vibes

Gaia: Earthbender who travels a lot to learn all types of earthbending techniques of the world.

The Hanks: Hank 1 - Airbender who is learning how to fly Hank 2 - Non-bender that has a cool weapon and is learning to use it Hank 3 - Firebender trying to learn lightning bending. Hank 4 - Waterbender learning healing. Hank 5 - Earthbender still trying to learn how to metalbend

Volt: Firebender who mastered both lightning and blue fire. Also a former fire nation soldier.

Washford: Waterbender using his bending for performance.

Chance: no.

We all know that the Dirk we're introduced to isn't his best self, that requires no explanation. But I haven't seen anyone recognize that "Clarence" is certainly not Dirk being true to himself, either.

To me, Clarence represents Dirk's insecurity made manifest by means of perfectionism. He has been washed clean; there isn't a hint of dirt or anything on him. The persona is a coping mechanism, and not truly who Dirk is at his core. Him desiring to remain as Clarence is him not wanting to confront the parts of himself that have been the truest because he once shared them with Harper.

I think he also despises that fact that before it all soured, Dirk did show some honest and genuine parts of himself with Harper that he now regrets. He likely (rightfully) feels that she didn't deserve to know him as intimately as she did. Part of that trauma is coming to terms with knowing that there's someone out there who didn't deserve to know him like that… but does. Which I'm sure is not an easy thing to learn to make peace with.

I imagine it's difficult for him to feel comfortable in his own skin now, without Harper, because their relationship (even the most toxic parts of it) became a comfortable fallback after a while.

Clarence is Dirk ignoring everything that makes him who he is. Harper amplified Dirk's flaws, their relationship wore him down to the most volatile parts of his character.

The truest glimpses of his personality are shown in how Harper reacts to them (namely, shaming and making fun of him for his interests). Dirk loves comic books, a pastime that Harper rejects and derides him for. He resigns himself to this kind of behavior because he doesn't know love without it. (For the record: I don't think Harper ever loved Dirk, nor do I think Dirk ever loved Harper)

Because of his trauma, he craves being told what to do since that stable presence wasn't there for him in his formative years. But he needs to build trust and confidence in himself enough to value his own inner compass.

Clarence acts pompous and arrogant. He appears ready to walk down a runway at any given moment, and he's a little mean. That's because he's overcompensating; he's trying so hard not to be the person he was with Harper that the pendulum swings so far to the other extreme.

Dirk relapses into self-forgetting habits both when he is with Harper and when he is desperately trying to distance himself from her. He doesn't realize it, but it's self-sabotage either way, both as Dirk in the Harper-Dirk equation, or as just Clarence.

Then who is Dirk, really?

At his healthiest, Dirk is the worn-in and well-loved sweater that is far from the pristine condition it was when you first bought it. It's not that you didn't take good care of that beloved article of clothing, far from it, only that the fabric has softened and grown cozier and more comforting with age. Dirk realizing that him at his best isn't when he's high-handed and feigning a dispassionate view of everything and everyone… and it isn't when he's downtrodden and manipulated into an empty husk of his personality…

It's when he's content and stable in himself and his relationships (platonic, romantic, whatever they may be). Lovingly worn-in with time. He's free to express his love of comic books and deserves loved ones who with foster the joy he gets from his hobbies.

Free to be himself, be excited about his interests, with agency that he craves (even if he doesn't know or acknowledge it for a long time) to make his own decisions without having anyone else's say-so.

So where is his middle ground? Where is the lovingly softened hoodie between the unsustainable high-fashion and the depressed unkempt mess?

The real Dirk is warm and sympathetic. He cares about others (often more than he might care to admit). He's sarcastic and perhaps a little cheeky at times. Dirk wears a smirk as often as he does a smile. He also has high standards and good attention to detail. He loves superheroes, and comics, and nerding out.
