as an autistic kid I got criticized for not making eye contact. so as an adult I trained myself to make very consistent eye contact (easier said than done). this in turn has led to some people telling me it’s “kinda weird” that I “stare so much.” the moral of this story is there is actually no pleasing neurotypicals

this! this is a great way to support your kid. behavioral quirks are only problems if they get in the way of a child’s personal progress or are actually disruptive or harmful. neutral behaviors like not making eye contact are fine, and we need to change the expectation that a social behavior is ‘wrong’ just because it is less typical.

Poor women will not be able to ever lift themselves out of poverty without universal childcare. Quality early education is key to children doing well later in life. Some of you have never interacted with women who have young children or single mothers, or children who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and it shows.

Also I'm going to chalk it up to ignorance, but preschool is not "weird" or "putting too much on kids". Preschool, outside of being "glorified daycare" (which uh is that a bad thing?) helps kids with social skills, mental skills, and just overall is good for their well-being. At the very very least kids needs to interact with other kids in a safe and controlled environment, which a lot of parents can't provide. Y'all on this hellsite talking trash about preschool know nothing about child development and socialization.

Also, a year of preschool in some areas costs the same as a year of college, I shit you not. Preschools often have waitlists. There are some areas where the only preschools available are through churches, if they're available at all. There are still parts of the country that don't even have full day kindergarten. I'm still mad about this because people like to talk big about helping kids but when it really comes down to it, they couldn't give less of a fuck. Free college sounds sexy and cool but free preschool doesn't get the same enthusiasm and is often only discussed when talking about "women's issues".
