MISCELLANEOUS TRANSITION STUFF NOBODY TOLD ME THAT ISN'T LIFE OR DEATH BUT IS STILL GOOD TO KNOW:
- Both estrogen and testosterone affect the thickness and elasticity of your skin, and this can impact a lot of people's piercings. If you're starting HRT, you might want to start babying your piercings again, even if you can typically handle jewelry that's not super high quality or you've been able to get away with cleaning them with mild face wash instead of sterile saline.
- Both estrogen and testosterone affect your breast tissue! The ways in which estrogen affects breast development is a little more obvious, but testosterone's effect on fat redistribution and the fact that a lot of people on T bind or tape their chests can also impact tissue and elasticity. This can cause stretch marks or sagginess for people on any type of HRT, which of course is normal, but can factor into the appearance of both types of top surgery. Consider applying cocoa butter to your chest to prevent and improve stretch marks and improve skin elasticity if you're concerned about this at all.
- Salicylic acid, an active ingredient in a lot of face washes and skincare products to treat and prevent acne, has been shown in some studies to slow or prevent the growth of facial hair. If facial hair is something you're wanting as part of your transition, consider looking for alternative active ingredients like benzoyl peroxide.
