What are you reading rn, why are you reading it, and what format are you reading it in (physical book, ereader, on your phone etc)
 - Very good.Â
This is the type of film that the phrase âglorious technicolorâ was invented for - look at the richness of the colours!
To say nothing of a phrase that gets used in this house a bit too oftenâŚ
ok so this is The Court Jester with Danny Kaye and it is the best fucking movie i swear. Itâs a comedy musical robin hood parody thing about an incompetent moron and his extremely competent ass-kicking girlfriend taking down a tyrannical king and restoring the throne to the rightful heir
-the rightful heir is a baby and they can tell itâs the right baby because of a giant birthmark on his asscheek
-the main characterâs only talent is singing and the rest of the pseudo robin-hood group just kinda tolerate him because he repeatedly fucks up
-he gets hypnotized into believing he is this amazing swashbuckling sword fighting hero along the lines of Wesley from the Princess Bride and ends up fighting the villain while snapping in and out of hypnosis
-the vessel with the pestle has the pellet with the poison, the chalice with the palace has the brew that is true âwhatâ
-he stumbles his way through the entire plot and never knows what the hell is going on
-Danny Kaye is the funniest motherfucker youâve never heard of
-seriously go watch it you wanât regret it
#yea verily yea ( @lessthansix)
And a fun tidbit from the filming was that Danny Kaye had never fenced before this film, so he was trained by Basil Rathboneâs stunt double who was also the fight coordinator. Kaye got so proficient so quickly, that Rathbone himself had to do most of the duel scenes between them as the fight coordinator eventually couldnt keep up with him on the more technical parts of the fight. If you watch closely, you can see that Rathbone stays on camera doing the fencing for a much larger percentage of time than he normally did by that point in his career, and Kaye does all but a couple of shots of his own fencing, because HIS double couldnt keep up and make it believable.
I need everyone in this thread to know that it is my belief that the post escaped containment in a drastic way because my Texan stepfather, a lovely man who is the least On Tumblr of anyone any of us has ever met, put this movie on for us to watch yesterday because âThe Internet says itâs great and underrated, and apparently thereâs a fight scene we need to watch.â
He chortled his way through it and pronounced you all correct and then lost his shit when I showed him my favorite backstage photograph:
Me: Ooh, cool - The Court Jester - I love that film...
scroll, scroll, scroll...
Me: Hey, wait a minute! That's my icon - and my name! When was this?
@euripidesredux The boom mic in the picture made me laugh and think of you
So that's how The Beatles recorded the final chord for 'A Day in the Life'!

Good morning to Discworld and H2G2 fans specifically, you are all hoopy froods who deserve a hard boiled egg in this trying time
Iâm paying to force seven thousand strangers to see a photo of my late husband having fun with his dog. Tumblr Blaze is totally worth it. XD
Thank-you to all of my new Internet stranger friends for being so gracious about having my post shoved onto your dashboards. I loved reading all of your kind tags and comments! Both Martin and Bosco have been gone for several years now but for 24 hours, they felt very present in my life. I greatly appreciate this gift. â¤ď¸
Reblog to have your dashboard be visited by the spirit of joy that death can end but not erase.
Love that this is well beyond 7000 people now and still going
@leavescrown Exactly! Itâs a beautiful gift. Martin and Bosco out there travelling around the Tumblr community, continually making new friends.
@sseanettles
#hello again martin and bosco!! sending you boys round for another go :)
Reading your tag made me laugh out loud. Itâs like two old friends unexpectedly stopped by your porch for a quick visit. XD
Iâll always reblog Martin and Bosco when they splash across my dash, because of Reasons.
Whatâs loved, lives.

Seeking escape
Those of you who notice such things will know that in a little less than two weeks, it's going to be a year since @petermorwood departed this plane of existence.
As the date's been getting closer, I'm becoming increasingly clear (due to mood swings and sleep disturbances and other such stuff) that it would be a really good thing for me if I don't have to live through this first anniversary of his loss anywhere near the house where he breathed his last.
For that day, and ideally a couple/few days on either side of it, I really need to get away from here.
So that's my plan, if I can get all this to come together (with everybody's help). ...It's not like any brief escape will get the pain to stop, you know? That's years away... if ever. But at least this move will prevent a short-term crisis, and allow me (after the really painful day has passed) to start getting back to what around here now passes for "standard operating procedure"âmeaning writing, and doing other work, and getting on with the rest of the current form of lifeâas quickly as possible.
What I have in mind is to spend the days on either side of May 9thâand the day itselfâas far away from the cottage as physical issues will allow me to travel. Let's think of it as a long weekend, an hour or two's flight away. To manage that, though, I need to boost sales at the Ebooks Direct store over the days to come. If the necessary funds manifest themselves over the course of this week, I'll have time to make the necessary arrangements.
So can I get those of you who see this post to reblog it, and bring the Ebooks Direct store to people's notice as widely as possible? ...As numerous ebook bundles are available at discount prices. (There are more than show in the slide below: that's just a snapshot of how the front-page carousel looks.)
...And if none of these appeal (or if you've got them already and want to give them to somebody else): hey, there are gift cards! (I finally managed to get these things organized correctly...) đ They come in per-bundle versions, or in a number of cash values to suit your preference.
Finally: if you've already got too many ebooks, or otherwise just prefer to drop a little something into the kitty to help me escape for a few-ish days, here's my Ko-Fi.
Support Diane Duane
...So let's see if this can be pulled off. And for all your past help, and assistance to come: thanks, friends. I appreciate you so much... as your voices, heard daily, are pretty much all that makes the local silence bearable.
Thanks again.
While the kids were watching BBCâs Swashbucklers, a very low-stakes and gentle kidâs game show where not-very-menacing pirates gently prod children into completing an obstacle course, Dr Glass said âin MY day (the 1980s) the children would simply be tormented in a dungeon by a menacing, filthy actor who did NOT appear to be jokingâ
I invited him to continue to explain whatever nightmarish facet of British culture had just occurred to him, and he was like âit was actually called Knightmare. They would put a prototype virtual reality helmet on a child, so they were blind, and a panel of their friends would have to steer them around, and all the adult actors were chewing the scenery - it was mildly stressful! and the adults did NOT want the kids to win.â
I was like, âare you sure this isnât some mis-remembered dungeons and dragons thing?â Neither of us have played it, and in his wild youth Dr Glass was far more likely to be lying about his age in a pub, but the more elaborate he became (âyou had to put food in your knapsack - the dragon puppets were frankly terrifying - the more I think about it, the more alarmingly advanced the CGI must have beenâ), the more I was convinced, except surely this is the sort of thing everyone would have heard of, right?
No, apparently, he wasnât making it up.
Knightmare was a OTT, strange, weirdly elaborately costumed 1980s-1990s British medieval fantasy game show, aimed at lightly tormenting a panel of schoolchildren, like this absolute mashed-up fever dream that feels like it would have been forbidden in America for encouraging cult behaviour in children. And the 1980s British schoolchildren who play it are strangely chill about it.
What a fever dream.
Knightmare is a British children's adventure game show, created by Tim Child, and broadcast over eight series on CITV from 7 September 1987
Asked my English husband and he went âoh yeah, I used to come home from school and watch that all the time as a kid! I remember when they had to make it more child friendly - the player character represented by the child in a helmet had a life bar and it was shown depleting by bits of the helmet coming away, then, bits of the face flaking away and eventually, it would be a skull with glowing red eyes crumbling. They replaced it with a knight just losing bits of his armor.â He seemed very nostalgic.
I was like âhi. Hello. What.â But look at this corroboration
âthereâs an ai tool for thatâ okay ?? thereâs probably an ed sheeran song for it too who gives a fuck

Earthset
The Artemis II crew captured this view of an Earthset on April 6, 2026, as they flew around the Moon. The image is reminiscent of the iconic Earthrise image taken by astronaut Bill Anders 58 years earlier as the Apollo 8 crew flew around the Moon. The Apollo 8 mission was the first crewed spacecraft to circumnavigate the Moon.
For more imagery from the mission, visit our Artemis II Multimedia Page.
