hot take ig on the "i'm gay i can't count" site but the rise in an inability to do even basic mental arithmetic is just as concerning as the increasing lack of reading comprehension
truly the only time i will whip out the calculator app for mental maths is when i do need to be pinpoint accurate (not ballparking it) and also it involves an annoying number like "what's 17% of that". i could do it in my head. it just takes a minute. i don't necessarily want to
the vast majority of the time however either a) a ballpark figure is fine ("eh 17% is about £3.60 or so") or b) it's a simple enough addition/subtraction/percentage... so it is literally fucking quicker to do it in my head
the amount of people who think "100% increase" means "this happens 100% of the time now" and not simply "the amount doubled" makes me want to boil myself alive
