I really wish it was as well understood that, in fiction and real life, when the explanation is “women are too smart to bother” or “women would be Too Good at this if they did it and then where would we be” or “women are too busy doing other more important things* to bother” that’s sexism and gender essentialism as well. Especially - extremely especially - if the thing they are allegedly too smart or potentially good at or busy to do is one that gives access to wealth, influence, and/or power.

See also: “oh the administrators/secretaries/low level staff (mostly women) actually run this place”. Okay but do they control the budgets though? Are they able to make important decisions without anybody else’s sign-off though? Are they paid commensurate to this alleged power though? Well, are they?

You do not get to profit, financially or attention wise or another way, off of a *potentially* queer jew whilst we are banned from pride events.

We do not know if she was questioning her sexuality but ultimately straight or if she was actually queer because she was killed for the crime of existing as a jew before she could come out. Queer rights obviously matter. Anne Franke is not the person you should be using.

You need to protect alive queer jews. You need to love all jews, not just the dead ones.

"But they banned zionists not jews", they banned jewish organizations, who refused to say they disavowed israel. That's like asking a local Chinese diaspora group to disavow the CCP or they can't be at pride.

Not to downplay the seriousness of the injury incurred by an exploratory bite, it was a BIG shark (possibly a great white, unknown), It left the woman in shock, in and out of consciousness. She would have drowned if not for the off duty life guard who held her head above water until the on duty rescue team arrived.

I do think calling every injury caused by a shark an "attack" and every listless approach a "close call", is alarmist in an extremely unhelpful way.

As a side note. If you stay calm and keep your head, you do have a superpower in most curious shark encounters (when the shark is smaller than a great white). As a creature with hands you have the ability to redirect an approaching shark with a solid sideways guiding shove to the snoot.

You just might have to be brave enough to open your eyes underwater in the ocean to perform the move if you're not wearing a mask or goggles. The water should be pretty shallow where people are swimming casually, so you would only need to dabble like a duck, like "*ducks below the water* no, fuck off *push*"
