Hydrangea hand embroidery
Ariana Grande & the conversation we’re not allowed to have
One of the famous deaths of my parents generation was Jimmy Hendrix, a genius guitar player rock legend who was described as this very sensitive, very vulnerable guy who was just too fragile for this world. So he started taking drugs and some say half the thrill of watching him on stage was people expected him to drop dead at any moment. He did drop dead eventually, of drug overdose.
I really wish people, especially his fans, had just boicotted his career. That they had made some public statement to the effect of "Until such time as we can see he's gone to rehab and has eaten something on a regular basis and is well on the road of recovery we will not be attending his shows, we won't be buying his records, we will not be contributing in any way to his career"; because then maybe enough pressure would've been generated by his friends, family, managers and record company to actually get something done to save him. Apparently until you hurt them in their wallets they just don't care - even if doing nothing is killing the goose with the golden eggs.
In more recent times there was Amy Winehouse, another sensitive, miserable, fragile person whose fans just stared at as she self-harmed with crack cocaine and anorexia on stage for their entertainment. No boicott there either, just more buckets of popcorn eaten in morbid fascination. She dutifully died, even though she was a wonderful and talented person who had her whole life ahead of her.
Stories like this are a dime a dozen in the entertainment industry. You even have less visible cases, like Anne Hathaway who made herself legally blind in her left eye thanks to years on a vegan diet. Fortunately she got surgery and started eating stakes again. So often veganism is just the front for anorexia, and not eating enough calories or nutrients has consequences.
Case in point Ariana Grande, a very senstive, very vulnerable person who has hated herself very publicly for many years. It seems she will never love herself no matter how many plastic surgeries she undergoes or how much she deprives herself of real food in real quantities. Of course her fans simply enable her, even when she says she's now healthier than ever - which is not possible of course, unless all of a sudden up is down and black is white. They and their support of her madness are going to be part of the reason she dies if she doesn't snap out of this quickly.
Who knows, maybe she'll bury us all, right? Considering there is the example of Eugenia Cooney who is inexplicably still alive. I can't detect any muscles on her body anymore, and yet somehow the walking, talking skeleton that she is still breathes and moves. It can be done, to become a shadow of who you used to be and still drag yourself along like a walking dead. Yay?
But if people don't stop enabling this behaviour the possibility that Ariana will end up more like Karen Carpenter is much more likely.

For years I heard about people allegedly hating Phil Collins and I was always genuinely puzzled, because what do you mean one of the most beloved pop singers of his generation is hated, what are you talking about?
Then I watched an interview with him and it became clear to me the source for that myth is Phil himself. No one else thinks this or would be saying it if it weren't for him and his paranoia.
On one hand he says that anywhere in the world if you turn on the radio you're likely to stumble upon at least one radio station playing one of his songs - which I agree is probably true. I certainly get the feeling that I'm more likely to hear his music than, say, Madonna, and she is more famous and more prolific than him.
But then he follows that up with how shocked he is that some people seem to truly hate him, and have had enough of him, his stupid face, his music especially the ballads, and would be glad never to hear from him again.
Yeah, it's called being really famous. The more people have heard of you the more people are either going to be your fans, your haters or occupy any grey area in between these two polar opposites. So?
So that for that reason he decided to retire and even bury some good ballads he composed, songs he thinks would've been hits, because he figures his haters wouldn't like them.
Try to imagine Madonna saying this, or even thinking this. Say what you will about Madonna but I can't magine her being so irrational or self-defeating. "I guess I could release another album that would be a huge sucess as usual, but I am aware that some people think I'm a ho and really hate my guts, always have, and can't wait for me to retire and shut up already, so even though I am so adored that I am a literal billionaire with fans who would kill for me I'm going to do my critics a favour and go home, never work again because you know me, I live to please my enemies who hate me and wish the absolute worst for me, screw my fans, I don't have a life to live".
You have to suffer from this pathological form of self-pity for this to make any sense to you. I knew he was physically very ill and had been for quite some time, I just hadn't realized it was part of a syndrome that involves serious mental illness as well. It's weird to me that the interviewer seemed to treat this as though it were perfectly reasonable for one of the most gifted and sucessful singer/songwriters of his generation to commit career suicide because he can't handle not being absolutely universally loved by every single person on the face of the planet all the time. What a shame.
I remember tv show host Graham Norton coining a phrase: "paradise syndrome" or paradise complex, meaning when someone is so spoiled, so fortunate in this world, they're so used to having it so easy that they just can't handle any push-back, any problems anymore. Everything has to run smooth, smooth, smooth all the time or they break and fall apart.
This deliberate waste of human potential is the kind of mental illness that I've only ever seen in some of the most absurdly fortunate and utterly spoiled people on Earth. Most of us will never know what it's like to have fate lavish upon us so many treasures of good luck only for us to flush them down the toilet like worthless trinkets.

How much bigger is a wolf than a coyote? Is it just noticeably larger and bulkier or is it a massive size difference?
Also they're normally natural enemies in the wild but sometimes they occasionally hybridize?
depends on the wolf! for this exercise we'll assume a median coyote size of 30 lbs.
while all north american wolves are technically grey wolves (except the mexican red wolf!) there are more than twenty subspecies of the damn things, all of which can differ significantly in size and appearance! (many now displaced with some extinct)
for example, the mexican wolf is only barely bigger than a large coyote, with adults reaching the 50-90 lb range.
whereas the northern rocky mountain wolf has any coyote massively outclassed, ranging between 80-150 lbs!
most other north american wolves range somewhere in between. but this is why we don't say "the size of a wolf" much as a figure of speech, because they come in so many different sizes!
and when wolves and coyotes hybridize, it's generally because there's no other potential partners in the area for either animal, so they start being willing to look a little farther up the family tree, so to speak!
