I agree with everything that’s been said. I’d like to also remind everyone about the original purpose of Western Universities was and continues to be rooted in colonization. The purpose was only designed for “elite” education. Designed around a narrative of “objective truth” that never existed. A system of control designed to oppress experiential knowledge and Indigenous Knowledge Systems. This has and continues to perpetuate problematic research practices and “parachute science.” People who are intent on denying that Indigenous Knowledge Systems is science are racist but it also points at the need to decolonize the entire system. I would recommend reading Dr Marie Battiste who highlights that equity often assumes the system is equal. I’d also like to recommend A Third University is Possible by La Paperson, Medicine Wheel For the Planet by Jennifer Grenz and Research is Ceremony by Shawn Wilson. These are just the first that came to mind.

Also cats are domestic animals????? Its your pet. Its your responsability to take care of it and it certainly doesn't look like you are doing this if your pet spends 90% of the day on the streets. Outside cats are in great risk for being ran over, stolen, beaten, poisoned, mauled or eaten by wild animals. A mildly bored cat is way better than a dead one and besides? Just offer your pet enrichment. You don't need to risk its life to keep it happy. You can even let it outside with supervision!! Look how many options we have. Insisting the only way to keep your cat happy is allowing it to wreck the environment and possibly die is not only fucking irresponsible, but also lazy and shows that you don't really care for the wildlife around you.

It never ceases to amaze me how much of anglophone's sense of morality is completely captive to whatever's legal in the US and UK. Every recent moral scare or discourse can be traced upstream to some bill that was attempted or successfully passed 5-15 years ago, before which it wasn't even widely considered an issue. Seeing supposedly progressive people turning hard towards sexual censorship and anti-sex education, justifying people getting arrested or having their income confiscated because "it's against the law/corporate code of conduct", forming witch hunts to brand random pin-up artists as sexual predators, and reifying conservative taboos... it really feels surreal when I still remember last decade how it was a common refrain to make fun of entertainment industries for permitting military propaganda and violence more than a half-naked body.

Everyone and their mother flipped their switch from fetishising Chinese culture (not a particularly good thing either) to vilifying every Chinese person they see and treating everything coming out of China as surveillance and propaganda from the 21st century manifestation of Nazi Germany. I was a grade schooler while this cultural switch was occurring, and even then it felt blatantly absurd to me.

The China thing is crazy in the West. In Latin America China is just another super power whith whom we have to deal with. Thus, I think that there is not that much fear mongering about it (also we are more used to socialism in general so whatever). However, when you read Western media, it's almost funny to me. Like "oh no, evil China wants to get its claws on the raw materials of the global south for the production of gren energy, such a villainous scheme, how can we stop them" while they are literally doing the same. Their double standard would be hilarious if it didn't have actual consequences on real life.
