fanfic writers will go "anyone gonna explore the kinda fucked up or emotionally impactful implications of this minor canon detail?" and then not wait for an answer.

Romantic evening at a ball... except in this mildly accurate historical AU, the kind of dances allowed are the Barely Touching Kind. Not sure if that's better or worse 8'D

happy pride month!
Breaking my several year harry potter silence just to say that in the Apollo Justice Trilogy, they removed the harry potter reference they originally had in the game. Which means that if you still consume hp content and talk about it, you are doing worse than fucking capcom
@endigolikesarson In the original, for the running joke regarding Valant and doors, Apollo calls Valant a muggle
While in the remaster, he says this which is way funnier even without the baggage
Everyone reblogging this post saying stuff like "they probably changed it because of copyright/dated reference" NEEDS to know that 1. There are multiple references to Doctor Who and Star Trek and a character probably named after someone from Battlestar Galactica of all things and 2. The lead writer for the localization stuff with Ace Attorney uses they/them pronouns.
You guys have GOTTA learn to stop seeking absolution from strangers online.
If someone says "haha Americans are so self-centered they don't know anything about other countries", you don't gotta jump in and explain that actually it's not your fault because you had a bad education. Just learn from the post and move on!
If someone says "white people hate rap because they're racist", you don't gotta jump in and start listing all the totally valid reasons you personally don't like it. You don't have to justify your music taste to strangers, just move on!
If someone says "people should be more involved in their local communities" you don't gotta jump in and start listing all the reasons that you personally can't leave your house and so actually the original post is really ableist. Just accept that the post doesn't apply to you and move on!
Stop publicly demanding that the internet absolve you of sins that some random dipshit made up, it is always going to make you look bad and you'll wind up trapped in an anxious cycle of needing external validation for every aspect of your personality. You don't have to justify yourself to randos on the internet.
The other reason you have to stop doing this is because when you have to come up with reasons and justifications for liking or not liking something, it slides into problematic REAL fuckin quick.
Like it's not racist to not like rap music but once you start grasping for reasons why rap is universally bad (so that it's okay that you don't like it) you're gonna get real racist real fast.
common myths about migraines (AKA if you get headaches regularly, please seek treatment for migraines)
"i don't have migraines because while i get them several times a week, it's only when i am hungry or dehydrated."
those are probably migraines. thirst, hunger, sleep disturbances, or any disruption to routine are common migraine triggers.
"my headaches are specifically barometric related, i get them when the weather/altitude changes."
those are probably migraines. barometric pressure is a common migraine trigger.
"i get headaches all the time but ibuprofen gets rid of them so they can't be migraines."
that's not true. ibuprofen works great at relieving migraine pain for many people.
"my consistent headaches are tension headaches. i feel them originate in my neck/shoulders."
those are probably migraines. muscle tension is a common migraine trigger.
if you are regularly getting headaches (once a week or more), you are likely getting migraines. in fact, a good rule of thumb if you're consistently getting headaches is to treat them as migraines until you can rule out migraines. that's how common "chronic headache = migraine" actually is.
migraines are a neurological disorder wherein pain is one symptom. pain is often the MAIN symptom, and the most noticeable symptom, which can make diagnosis tricky. other symptoms of migraine include:
fatigue
nausea/vomiting
digestive issues
visual disturbances (auras)
sensitivity to light and/or sound
mood changes
brain fog/cognitive changes
ringing in the ears
dizziness/vertigo
numbness/weakness on one side of the body
this list is NOT complete, but is a starting point. i really like the comparison to a hangover. if you generally feel hungover when you get a headache (without having consumed alcohol), that's a classic migraine presentation.
so many people suffer from migraine and don't even know it, so they aren't able to advocate for themselves to get treatment. there are great new migraine treatments on the market! if you're able, please seek treatment for your migraines. a better quality of life is possible.
Also want to add: for YEARS I insisted that my frequent and debilitating headaches could not be migraines because I never saw any auras, which I thought were present with migraines absolutely 100% of the time. Turns out this is not true at all. Not everybody gets those, and that doesn’t make it magically not a migraine.
Another thing that doesn’t get talked about enough: migraines often run in families. If your parent, sibling, or other close relative has migraines, there’s a much higher chance you might experience them too, even if your symptoms look a little different.
Also, migraines are comorbid with a lot of other things. If you have endometriosis, any kind of hormone or reproductive disorder, and/or GI issues and are having headaches? Yeah, those are migraines. The chronic illness purchase was sadly a buy one get one free.
Migraines are tricky little shits because they are basically your nervous system getting overwhelmed and misfiring or misfiring and then getting overwhelmed at the result. I'll give an example of each.
There's lots of tiny adjustments to be made to the meat sack whenever the weather changes and that's all automatically done by the brain, so a large barometic drop just makes the brain go into the metaphorical corner to scream and cry because that's so so much work and they're sick and exhausted and in pain. Metaphorical and literal neurological burnout.
Or whatever other trigger might set off the nervous system, which can basically be anything. Anything that can be perceived by your body and then by your brain. Certain scents, like from particular cleaning products. Allergies. Or even a specific type of light. Fluorescent lights are a trigger for a lot of people. My most sure-kill trigger is specifically sunlight.
But the majority of my migraines are aura-less. When I do get aura though, I know the rest of my day and usually tomorrow are cancelled.

cultivating your taste is so important. you don’t have to be particularly structured or methodical about it, but you should develop real curiosity about why you like the things you do, how they make you feel, why it matters… to put yourself around things that are considered truly great even if you don’t get it yet. and learn to listen to other people who have cultivated their own taste, not to replicate theirs but to see how they do it and share in their expansive energy… the more you interact with good taste, whatever that means to you, the more depth you carve into your own soul… and if you crave success in some capacity, it has this strange way of making you seem more “real” and significant to others around you, and in a way that is so authentic and natural and pleasurable. it just creates an energy that propels you forward in every way. so next time you worry if you’re being shallow, you’re not, that’s a lie, you’re actually bringing great depth… what you like matters because how you feel matters. a lot. like it’s the most important thing. you know?
i beat myself up for not knowing enough about my special interests a lot but then i remember the average person off the street has no idea what the carboniferous is and i feel better
are you really bad at it or are you in "good at it" spaces
Me: ah shit, I misidentified that yellow rumped warbler as a female goldfinch, I should literally be hung at the gallows for this. I'm such an IDIOT
My friend, pointing at a vulture: check out that fucked up crow lol

"Anarchist" but gets triggered when people voluntarily don't wear bicycle helmets.
Me when I know what anarchy is
Gravity legally cannot hurt you if you scream "NO GODS NO MASTERS" immediately before impact
I'm so fucking tired of this bicycle helmet discourse. Bike helmets aren't going to do shit to protect you if you get hit by a car
Most of the time... Bike accidents.... Involve things.... Other than cars...... like the ground....also it's safety gear..... Wearing it is non negotiable.... You are one accident away from being permanently disabled..... You need to protect your brain
Not towards OP
Is OSHA and other safety regulations also cop behavior?
*sigh* The belief that OSHA and other safety regulations are cop behavior are common opinions that people have, anarchist or not. Wearing PPE is annoying and often uncomfortable, sweaty, and cumbersome. People also generally hate being told to be careful, because they believe that "be careful" is synonymous with "hey, you're too stupid to do that without hurting yourself".
But all it takes is one time for you to slip up and suddenly the grinder disk that would have gotten stuck in your safety glasses is in your eye, or you're getting treated for lung cancer because you didn't want to wear your respirator while you welded. These are decisions that you were free to make, but might seriously regret later on.
People will scream until they're blue in the face about how oppressive it is to have to wear a safety vest and hard hat on a construction site, but do you really think that the hammer that slipped out of your buddy's hand is going to take that into consideration when it collides with your skull?
No political theory will save you from an accident. You can either wear your PPE, or can die, unexpectedly, painfully, and slowly. The choice is yours. Go argue with a lathe if you feel so strongly about it.
Go argue with a lathe if you feel so strongly about it
@breelandwalker it is criminal to leave this scorching point in the tags
a few points:
• every safety rule is written in blood
• OSHA exists so the boss can't force you to die for their profits. it was started as a result of union action, as a direct response to the triangle shirtwaist factory fire. OSHA is constantly fighting for worker's rights and protection. whistleblower laws protect any employee who makes an OSHA complaint against their employer, and anyone who reports is guaranteed anonymity and aggressive legal support against retaliation. there is also a separate health and safety administration for miners in the USA called MSHA.
• the people most likely to get hurt on the job are not apprentices or senior workers approaching retirement. the new hire is careful because they're green, and still learning, and still unfamiliar with the tools and the work. the old hand is careful because retirement is within sight and they want to make it there. the person who gets hurt is usually the journeyman at the peak of their career—in their 30s-50s, an expert at their trade, their tools feel like an extension of themselves, and they're so comfortable they forget to be careful. they've gotten lucky cutting corners or using something incorrectly or taking off a guard or leaving off some safety equipment 1000 times but one day they're tired or distracted or too comfortable or too confident and the luck runs out.
• some accidents you cannot just avoid with skill, or you have no personal control over them. sometimes you have to trust your coworkers with your life. the big blue crane collapse killed three ironworkers who were on an observation platform, doing other work, far from the crane, with no ability to prevent or escape the collapse. the crane collapsed as a result of being operated despite adverse conditions, despite the normal crane operator refusing to run the crane due to adverse conditions making it unsafe, and was filmed because a safety inspector was recording the violation and attempting to stop it. the operator of the crane got out safely, but three ironworkers who were hundreds of feet away, who didn't know the crane would be operating despite unsafe wind speeds, and who were trapped in midair anyways with no way to avoid or escape the collapse, and who above all just had to trust that everyone on the job site would be working safely and doing their jobs correctly, died. that footage has been used in every OSHA training i have ever been in.
• every safety rule is written in blood.
I spent 5 minutes on this picture, and I don't think it deserves it
