I've been thinking about what aspects actually contribute to good writing and why I like my favorite authors. So I've created these radar charts like one would do for athletes or Pokémon (sorry). Maybe it would be fun to generate these from user aggregate data on sites like Goodreads or Storygraph.
Prose Quality of the sentence by sentence writing. Things like rhythm and word choice but also clarity and evocative imagery.
Characterization How vivid, believable and distinct do the characters feel?
Dialogue Character voices, realism, subtext, quotability. I guess this should also include non-verbal character interaction.
Narrative Momentum How effectively does the story pull you along and makes you turn the pages? Pacing, tension and payoffs.
World building / Setting / Atmosphere How strong is the sense of place and immersion? Are ideas and concepts thought out and thought through?
Thematic Depth Ideas, Symbolism, complexity. How much does the story make you think and what does it have to say?
These 6 categories are probably not super useful outside of genre fiction and books can certainly still be masterpieces while being weak in one of these aspects, but I really admire authors who I feel like have full hexagons here (Le Guin and Pratchett my GOATs).
spooky scary babygirl sends shivers down your spine (˶ˆᗜˆ˵) and she is a big fish that kills you and eats you (>/////<) ♡
Say what you want about Matthew Moss - that man can run DOOM
I'm blown away by the Witch Hat Atelier adaptation so far. These first 3 episodes just had incredible animation, the magic looks beautiful and there are all these charming pop-up storybook snippets. It really feels like the people at Bug Films know that they have gold in their hands and they are going all out.
Quifrey and Olruggio are some of my favorite examples of soft masculine characters. They are warm, excellent teachers, unofficial husbands and they have a cooking spinoff manga together. I really hope more characters like them can enter the mainstream.
Pale fans should not miss out on this! Especially if you liked early Pale where the girls were learning their basic elementalist diagrams. Witch Hat Atelier has an insanely comprehensive magic that just makes you want to invent and draw your own diagrams.

Little witches ranked by how fast they would find a missing cat in a small village in the Alps
Pale Arcs 1-3 Fanart Compilation!
No spoilers beyond 3.z in the tags/reblogs please ;-;
I've only had the girls for three arcs but if anything happened to them I'll... who are we kidding, this is a wildbow serial. Gently holding them I love them and their friendship so much ;-;
Best girl Alpy drinking her coffee before a long shift at the nightmare factory.
Edith I love you Edith. Her Girl in Candlelight form is so cool.
Bonus: sketches I made in between chapters! I've been posting these in my liveread thread in the PHO discord. It's been fun making silly doodles like these.
I'm normally hesitant to post fanart that isn't fully-polished - even the non-doodle art pieces above only took a few hours each to finish - but I might keep doing little compilations like these after every 3 or so arcs I finish.
The other two pieces of this collection can be found here and here.

Who is going to be most responsible for creating the torment nexus in SEEK?
Basil
A
Winnie
Toby
The Grayfrocked
Dog
Aliens
Results
I just finished The Picture of Dorian Gray and I think I'm ranking that Basil below the one from SEEK but above the one from Pale. As for the Dorians I think I like the one from Pale more but Lord Henry clears Henry the little brother of Nora
> be me > read Worm circa 2017 > immediate brainrot and brain chemistry change > read twig, pact, ward, claw, seek > 2025 > start and finish the magnus archives and discover the world of podcasts with a plot > immediate brainrot and brain chemistry change > listen to malevolent, red valley, find us alive, redacted, etc. > 2026 > discover there is a full cast worm audiobook of professional podcast quality > twin sources of brainrot combine >
Is the full cast worm audiobook actually complete? I only saw the first four arcs on YouTube.
Yup, it's only up to the first four arcs so far, but apparently they tend to release episodes in batches per arc. I saw on their Discord they've completed casting for arcs 6-8 so it seems they're still working on it, which is neat.
Oh, that's neat. I saw that they hadn't come out with a new chapter since 2003.
Yeah once Wildbow actually started writing the story in 2011, they got bored of predicting it word for word. Still - impressive work for its time
Great news from the official Nature Journal:
These monkeys are gay and it is scientifically proven that it's good for them.
Finally figured out which other WB protagonists the SEEK protags best map onto:
Winnie is Blake because she just wants to ride her motorcycle fly her spaceship but her family and the universe hate her and won't leave her alone
Basil is more like Blake because he is a not quite real guy who has to constantly deal with the bullshit of the unreasonable woman he shares his existence with
And then Orion is Blake because he is sopping wet, facing the Horrors and fighting for his life every chapter

Happy holidays from the Belt!
Here's a totally normal Christmas card featuring A, Basil, Winnie, and Orion. Look at these characters, they're all having a grand time and definitely not going through the horrors <3 You absolutely should look at this card very closely with your screen brightness turned all the way up.

If you ordered a delivery in space and the smuggler was a robot ratgirl you could ask her for a snack and she would blend an actual rat into a smoothie and say "the judiciary is onto me. I'm going to get a cheese and desist"
