Hey all, thought I’d give an update as well as gather all the links together in one place.
As you might know, I’ve spoken about my financial situation in posts and in tags for a long while, and just a while ago I made a post about my landlord threatening to evict me (turns out they were lying, more on that in a second). My situation these past few months has been hard and there’s days where I struggle to get out of bed do to paralyzing anxiety and dread.
In brief; my mom was fired due to sexism at the beginning of the pandemic and has struggled to find a job for the past two years. We initially had her unemployment benefits to cover everything but that eventually ran out. Then we had California rent relief but that also ran out. Then we took out some personal loans, but those didn’t last long and now my mom and my grandma’s credit scores are utterly destroyed (and possibly mine too but idk). We haven’t paid rent in months and our landlord is breathing down our necks to either pay up or get out. My mom has even resorted to donating plasma to make any kind of income, but it’s no where near enough to cover what we need.
This isn’t helped by the fact that our apartment recently came under new ownership and the news owners seem to be salivating at the idea of kicking out all the old tenants and raising rent from about $2000 to $3000 on new tenants. Our saving grace is that our case is backlogged in the courts and thus there’s no official eviction yet, but that hasn’t stopped the landlord from sending now TWO threatening emails saying that a sheriff is gonna come lock us out of our place, despite them not legally being able to yet.
And to top it all off, my grandmother was recently hospitalized and had to spend about a month in a recovery care facility which she utterly hated. I won’t get into the details (that could be a whole different post) but she is back home with us now and doing better. It’s a relief, but at the time is was stressful and filled us with worry on top of everything.
I’m writing this today because my mom was rejected from yet another job opportunity. She had interviewed all the way up to the CIO, was so sure everyone liked her– they even rescheduled her interview twice!– so surly she’d get the job..! But after two weeks of waiting and an email later, we go the final word.
It was crushing and I felt very hopeless.
But my friends @dromaeocore and @doctor-rot have given me back some hope. They’ve set up a go/fund/me to help my family cover the bills, and an amazon wishlist to get us hygiene stuff and cat food not covered by our foodstamps. I am eternally grateful to them and for everyone who’s already donated for their kindness and generosity, as well as everyone over the past two years who’s helped me (you know who you are; @werevampiwolf @daisyssousa, @littlemeangreen, @gothboudreaux and several others!)
Here’s the wishlist if you aren’t comfortable donating money
Here are Corvin and Rot’s discounted commissions if you’d like something in exchange
And here’s my Ko-Fi if you’d like to give me money directly to my paypal
All money raised will be going towards bills (car, electricity, and internet), gas money, for a storage unit for our stuff, and towards paying at least one months worth of rent.
We’re hoping by doing that we can negotiate something with our landlord, however in the event that doesn’t pan out we’ll use this for a temporary hotel or Airbnb. We’ve also contacted several agencies to try and get rapid rehousing or stay at a homeless shelter, but with our cats that might be an issue. I’ll give updates on how all of that goes.
This has been the most stressful few years of my life, but the good in humanity keeps me going. I want to live and see the good days, so I’m gonna keep going. Thank you to everyone for reading, for donating, for reblogging, everything.
