At this point, I've had enough of my posts go big that I've started getting attention as a possible amplifier for donation posts.
Here is my policy:
As a rule, I will not reblog/repost/promote an individual fundraiser for anyone I do not have a personal connection with.
Exceptions may be made if there is significant supporting information showing that the fundraiser is legitimate and the funds are both reaching their intended recipient and being used as stated, but this will be very rare.
There are a lot of people out there on this bitch of an earth who need help. There are also a lot of really shitty people who grow fat by exploiting the natural desire of humans to help each other in times of crisis. There are even more shitty people who learn that they can step in the path of help going from donor to recipient and take some of it for themselves. Scams can be very sophisticated, and I simply do not have the time, energy, or skillset to research everyone who asks me to reblog their GoFundMe, and I am not willing to promote a fundraiser I don't know is legit.
I believe in doing good and helping others, and I give my money and my time in ways I can be sure will make a meaningful difference. I encourage everyone else to do likewise. But I also believe in thoughtful consideration of where I can do the most good, and putting my resources there.
If my first contact with you is you asking me to give you money or to promote you asking others to give you money, there is a 99.9% chance I will delete the message and block you.
