The morning, albeit late,Β hadn'tΒ lasted long enough. The boys had dragged themselves out of bed, showered, and cooked breakfast yawning against the sound of the radio to wake them up. Benji was always grateful to sleep in on Fridays, as tired as they both usually were.Β Β
Against every bone in his body that wanted to rest, Andre washed theirΒ dishes asΒ a courtesyΒ since he had the day off.Β The least he could do, knowing he was one lucky bastard for actually getting a Friday.Β At leastΒ SundayΒ wasn'tΒ too far away for Benji. The gestureΒ didn'tΒ go unnoticed, and both men dried the dishes and put them away.Β Β
With thanks they parted ways to get ready for their days. Benji for work, and Andre for a dayΒ onΒ the town with Darren. The redhead rummaged through his closet for his denim uniform and draped the jeans across the bedΒ alongsideΒ a white patterned button up. Hangers clicked noisily as he searched for his jacket with no luck.Β Β
" Fuck."Β
He had done the laundry surely, but the more he thought the less he remembered having seen it. After giving it a thorough search he conceded it was lost.Β Β
As the clock nearedΒ noonΒ Benji's hair was dry and he slumped on the couch wearing what he could find of his uniform reluctantly coming to terms with being awake.Β
" Do we need anything whileΒ I'mΒ out?" Andre asked whilst grabbing his keys from the coffee table.Β
" I thinkΒ we'reΒ almost outΒ of laundry detergent. I can give you a few bucks before you go."Β Β
" No,Β I'llΒ get it. We'll probablyΒ swing byΒ Pathmark for a few things."Β
" Okay... I think I'mΒ gonnaΒ leave earlier to stop at Lances, I think I left my jacket there."Β
" I'm sure that's exactly what you're going for."Β Β
" I can multitask." A cheeky smirk spread across his face confirming hisΒ friend'sΒ suspicions,Β they both knew it was true.Β
" Uh huh.Β I'llΒ see you at the club. Have fun."Β Β
"You know it, be safe. TellΒ DarrenΒ I saidΒ hey."Β
" Tell Lance /I/ saidΒ hey. If you're not too busy."Β Β
With a final goodbye amongst theirΒ laughterΒ Andre left.Β
BenjiΒ lounged on the couch a little longer, absently staring at the blank television screenΒ they had not bothered to turn on.Β It was dangerously easy to close his eyes andΒ dozeΒ but heΒ couldn't. He would only grant himselfΒ half anΒ hoursΒ rest before hauling himself up againΒ to finish getting ready.Β LastlyΒ grabbing his bag and heading out the door.Β Β
The elevator wasΒ unoccupiedΒ making for a quick descent to the ground floor. The building was lessΒ populatedΒ thanΒ usual,Β which in some ways wasΒ uncomfortable..Β Not that a crowd was pleasantΒ eitherΒ but thereΒ could beΒ something off-putting when it was the opposite of the norm.Β Most tenantsΒ wereΒ probablyΒ outΒ for the weekend,Β if only he wasΒ affordedΒ the luxury, but he found it hard to be disappointedΒ these daysΒ when Lance wasΒ only a drive away.Β Β
Outside wasΒ nearly asΒ calm apart from theΒ sound of unseen cars in the distance.Β SquintingΒ in theΒ sunΒ he sawΒ his car across the lot, remembering he had parked underneath one of theΒ decorative trees.Β HeΒ shuffled throughΒ his keys making his way there with a soft smirk crossing his lipsΒ thinking of the kissesΒ heβdΒ soon be giving hisΒ boyfriend. A blush roseΒ into his cheeks, sometimesΒ heΒ questioned how he got to this point, it felt impossible, and yetΒ here he wasΒ daydreaming.Β
HeΒ inserted the key and began to turn it whenΒ movement brought his vision up to the reflection of a man standing behind him in theΒ driversΒ side window, startling him from his thoughts.Β The man acted first, cupping the back of his head and slamming Benjaminβs face into the door.Β IntenseΒ pressure overtook him and waved into a throbbing numbness.Β His eyes were clenchedΒ shutΒ but he felt himself being pushed again, anotherΒ impact against the doorΒ less hard than the first but that had been all it took. Hands were onΒ his body lifting him as if he were weightless,Β shoving him inside his own car and over theΒ seats into the passenger side. βShut up andΒ don'tΒ move.βΒ broke through the ringing in his ears. HeΒ hadn'tΒ been aware of any noise he made and couldΒ only slump where he hadΒ been pushed. NumbnessΒ had given way into pain coursing through his head and down his neck. His body tensed tightlyΒ to cope withΒ theΒ throesΒ somewhat recognizingΒ his eyes wereΒ nowΒ open but plagued with black static blinding him.Β
The car started and began to move, theΒ sunlightΒ flashing by becoming moreΒ evidentΒ the more his vision cleared.Β It was uncertain how much time passed,Β the pain made it feel insufferably long.Β Breaths came easier whenΒ itΒ ebbed into a throb and he could make out the shapes of buildings going by. His body trembledΒ from the shock as he became more aware, feeling a layer of sweat sticking to his clothes. WhatΒ happened?Β Β He lifted his hand to his forehead to inspectΒ theΒ damage,Β hisΒ skinΒ tightΒ with swellingΒ he flinched away from. AΒ wetnessΒ wasΒ left onΒ his fingers he blurrily made out to beΒ bloodΒ but heΒ couldn'tΒ tell how muchΒ he had lost.Β
However,Β the presenceΒ beside himΒ drivingΒ was all the reminder he needed, silent and looming. TheΒ man was a brunette, short hair, and wearingΒ what appeared to be aΒ dark jacket.Β Injuries became secondary to theΒ very realΒ threatΒ mere feet away from him.Β HeΒ attemptedΒ to shift his weightΒ to the side to create more distance, with someΒ difficultyΒ as low as he was slumped in the seat.Β Β
The drive only lasted a moment longer, the man making a wide right turn on aΒ lower levelΒ terrainΒ and parkedΒ underΒ shadow. Judging by the view from theΒ windowΒ itΒ appeared to beΒ an alleyway.Β This was his chance.Β Benjamin glanced towards his captor, gathering all hisΒ strength toΒ sit up and grab the door handle-Β WithoutΒ a second to spareΒ the manΒ clasped his hand against BenjiβsΒ mouthΒ andΒ thrustΒ him back into the seat, firmly holding him in placeΒ by his jaw. Rage burned through the redhead at beingΒ restrainedΒ andΒ boreΒ his eyes into him.Β FinallyΒ he could see his full face,Β aΒ paleΒ manΒ who'sΒ features wouldΒ not be unpleasant had they not been contorted into beingΒ vicious.Β Β Β
βI met your /lover/Β recently.βΒ Words spoken revealedΒ theΒ fangsΒ withinΒ and recognitionΒ flashed across Benjiβs features. This was aΒ vampire..Β AndΒ through hisΒ acheβsΒ he couldΒ piece together a time months agoΒ Lance had mentioned an unwelcome visitor. This recognition brought a wicked smile to theΒ otherΒ manβs lips as if he enjoyed watchingΒ it unfold.Β
βYea, he told you...HesΒ a real piece of work.β The smirk turned more resentful,Β β Really. Fucking. Stupid.Β YouΒ cantΒ be much smarter. No one crosses me.βΒ His voiceΒ jarredΒ similarly to hisΒ appearance;Β a fair voice filled with venomΒ whollyΒ dissonantΒ toΒ the ears. Benji was not so easilyΒ intimidated and aware it might have been naivety,Β but he was determined.Β With a deep breath he opened his mouth and bit down hard on the manβs hand. The sharp taste ofΒ bloodΒ touched his tongue as the hold on him slacked, and heΒ clamored for theΒ doorΒ handle,Β lunging himselfΒ up into the open door.Β Β
A handΒ grabbedΒ atΒ his shirt and draggedΒ him back down,Β prompting him to turn and land a heavy punch to theΒ vampiresΒ nose. Just enough time to break away.Β Standing was not so easy after a blow to the head.Β He felt his balance sway and braced himself against the car whileΒ quicklyΒ moving his feet.Β The vampire was closeΒ behind,Β he could hear him scrambling from the car. One step, two, three-Β Β
He was slammedΒ backwards onto the side of the carΒ with a simple push.Β HeΒ struggled,Β hit,Β andΒ squirmed under the confinement until he wasΒ secured down with aΒ strengthΒ heΒ couldn'tΒ compete with.Β
β WhyΒ do you people always think you have a chance?Β YouβreΒ already dead, whetherΒ itsΒ me today orΒ you'reΒ hit by a car tomorrow... you were never goingΒ to make it. Theres no fucking point.βΒ
βFuck you!!βΒ Β
βIf heΒ didn'tΒ want youΒ deadΒ he should have turned you,Β itsΒ almost a mercy to kill you now.β HeΒ leaned inΒ closer and lowered his voiceΒ in satisfaction.Β β QuidΒ proΒ qou,Β I get what I want, and you get to die beforeΒ you'reΒ too old for him to fuck.βΒ
Fury boiled over and Benji spat in theΒ vampiresΒ eyes,Β evoking aΒ jerkΒ backΒ ofΒ disgustΒ butΒ theirΒ strength did not falter. Instead,Β HeΒ was lifted and thrown into the concreteΒ with anΒ impossibleΒ force.Β Β His side struckΒ firstΒ sending him into a roll, the groundΒ scraping through his denim and skin.Β The air had been knocked fromΒ him,Β his mouthΒ fellΒ open but his lungsΒ locked, refusing to expand as if the signalΒ couldnβtΒ reach them. He nowΒ understoodΒ how much Lance had been holding back with him,Β and the thought of this not being the worst crossed his mind.Β BreathsΒ caught inΒ his throat as he remembered how to breathe.Β His hand braced against theΒ concrete,Β trying to steady himself as if he wereΒ stillΒ falling.Β Β
The vampire had no reason to act quickly, wiping his eyesΒ thoroughly withΒ confidence thatΒ the redhead was goingΒ nowhere.Β Β
Benji, however, refused toΒ surrender. He gulped down a deep breath and pulled himself up onto his elbows first, then hands and knees. His eyes looked towards the alleyΒ openingΒ knowingΒ it was a slim chance, scanning around him for anything to use as a weapon.Β Only small gravel littered theΒ ground,Β he would have to move, so he began to crawl. FootstepsΒ approachedΒ himΒ calmly from behindΒ andΒ his kidnapperΒ looped his handΒ around BenjiβsΒ neck,Β pullingΒ him up onto the very edge of his knees.Β He grabbed at the wrist to no avail, gagging at the pressure the more he was liftedΒ nearly fromΒ the ground. TheΒ vampireΒ openedΒ his mouthΒ and leaned in to where theΒ humanβsΒ shirt was ripped,Β exposed shoulderΒ ready for a bite. Benji did notΒ have toΒ see it to feel the encroaching closeness. With one last desperateΒ actΒ heΒ bucked against the sensationΒ only to beΒ clutchedΒ tighter.Β
Β Teeth plunged into his flesh andΒ grated againstΒ his collar bone with a searing white pain.Β Screams were cut short beneath the hand around his throat.Β WithΒ LanceΒ itΒ had always beenΒ aΒ gentle,Β shared intimacy. ThisΒ biteΒ wasΒ violent... feral...Β excruciating. LightheadednessΒ from the lack of oxygen crept inΒ almost asΒ a relief, dulling his sensesΒ just enough.Β Heat built behind his eyesΒ and traveled into his lips with tingles ofΒ suffocation..Β
Then, he was released.Β Β
BenjaminΒ fellΒ ontoΒ his stomachΒ with little resistance,Β reservingΒ all his strength toΒ heaveΒ in airΒ like a drowning man.Β Blood flow returned to his shoulder like needlesΒ that rivaled the fangsΒ themselves,Β ushering in a wave of blood lossΒ thatΒ sapped the tensionΒ fromΒ his muscles.Β The human lay cheekΒ toΒ concrete helpless to his needΒ for breathΒ andΒ the heaviness setting in.Β There was a chance he could make it out,Β someone could walk by...Β but what if thisΒ wasΒ it.Β What if he never saw his family again...heΒ couldn'tΒ do that toΒ them.Β LanceΒ would never forgive himself....TheΒ thought of Lance and his family living with the grief was too much to bear.Β Β
Please..Β Don't..Β
TheΒ vampireΒ towered overΒ himΒ suckingΒ his teethΒ savoring every flavorΒ andΒ inhaling the scent of each new drop that fell.Β This was going to be delicious.Β Β
-Β
Consciousness had wanedΒ until he lost track of theΒ many bitesΒ inflicted.Β βΒ ...whatΒ ifΒ he watchesΒ you die.β Benji had heard,Β theΒ voice sounding far too gratified in his accomplishment.Β
He hadΒ wentΒ intoΒ shock andΒ coldness.Β The redhead could register beingΒ liftedΒ butΒ could not grasp anything but darknessΒ until he heard the familiar click of Lanceβs front door.Β His eyes caught slivers ofΒ theΒ apartment, and though his mindΒ couldntΒ moveΒ as quickly as the senses, his bodyΒ recognized theΒ shapeΒ of the couch upon being laid on it.Β
Β β HeΒ can let you die or try to turn you. I doubtΒ heβllΒ favor either.βΒ and theΒ figureΒ leftΒ withΒ hisΒ surpriseΒ on display.Β Β
Benji.Β Laying whereΒ he and LanceΒ had been together many times, nowΒ bruisedΒ and broken.Β Β
Tears had dried downΒ hisΒ face intermingled in blood and dirt, pooling down his neckΒ across puncture wounds. These were light, avoiding hitting an artery and ending it too soon.Β TheΒ othersΒ however, wereΒ merciless.Β BitesΒ linedΒ his shoulder, down his arms,Β rippedΒ intoΒ himΒ with every toothΒ to ensure theΒ statementΒ was made.Β
Β It seemed heΒ was in unending silence.Β If he had heard the phoneΒ ringingΒ it onlyΒ perked a subconscious recognitionΒ than havingΒ trulyΒ heard it.Β Reality was slipping. He was cold, so cold, and the onlyΒ string ofΒ thoughtΒ he could follow was;Β
Β IβmΒ sorry, I love you.Β
