My FATHER went to a LEGALLY MANDATED segregated school until he was 8 and integration was then enforced. He was not legally allowed into a school or part of town with white people until he was almost ten

Many people forget black people couldn’t even vote until 1965. That’s not that long ago.

for the vast majority schools within the south, substantive de-segregation was completed only in like circa 1975. thats like fucking 20 years after Brown v. Board of education.

Less than 65 years. King was murdered in 68, which was effectively the end of the movement and beginning of the Black Power era. My parents were both born in the 50s in the Jim Crow south, and remember it vividly. One of my mom’s friends was even killed at the 16th Street Baptist Church. People are delusional for acting like this was all so long ago.

There were schools in the U.S that still had segregated proms in 2012. Shit is still happening it’s not all in some distant past.

I love kids they’re all like.. “when i grow up i’m gonna be an astronaut and a chef and a doctor and an olympic swimmer” like that self confidence! That drive! That optimism! Where does it go

It gets destroyed by adults not believing in you and telling you to pick a realistic career. And by society creating all these obstacles to the point that you’re too tired to try.

But they’re not really unrealistic, SOMEBODY is going to be an olympic swimmer and it might as well be you.

As someone who started drawing at 35 and who always was like: ‘eh, I can’t draw a stick figure to save my life, but I would love to be able to’ this is near and dear to my heart. If you want to draw, start drawing. Keep drawing. Be shit at drawing at first. Keep it up, doodle things on scraps but also draw stuff you don’t think you can draw. Challenge yourself, you will be surprised what you can do. It will be frustrating at times, but it will also be awesome. It is SO much a matter of practice and dedication, not talent.

The problem with this is that it reduces the incentive to actually do fiscally well. What’s the point of starting a business if you can’t become wealthy?

There is a very real difference between “reasonably wealthy” and A BILLIONAIRE

No one is saying you shouldn’t have a nice house, we are saying that having multiple really, really ridiculously nice houses while your employees are either homeless or at serious risk of becoming homeless is immoral.

I’ll never understand why this concept is hard for people. I think it’s because they can’t actually fathom how much $1 Billion is.

God dammit

If you were making, for the sake of argument, $25 million a year, you could live a life of extreme luxury. Even then, it would take you forty years of spending none of that money to amass a single billion. There are multi-billionaires out there. No one needs that kind of money.

Currency came into existence to simplify trade. It was meant to make things easier and better for society. When a single person has more than they need, even more than they would need for an extravagant lifestyle, they’d completely unreasonable. Money isn’t meant to be hoarded for status. I honestly think billionaires are addicted to money.
