Meet the faces of the âIâm Sorryâ campaign, a group of Christians who go to Chicagoâs pride celebrations every year to apologize for their past hateful actions against LGBT people. The group started in 2010 and has since moved to other cities across the world. This is what love looks like. (via the Advocate)Â
I know itâs color but this needed to be shared
Amazing
A reminder that everyone can change, and that there are truly wonderful and supportive people out there.Â
Look itâs a little self-serving and feel-good for the Christians in question, Iâm sure, but you have no idea how healing this can be for LGBT Christian folks. Even if they grew up in a welcoming tradition. Especially if they did not.
ESPECIALLY if they did not
All of the above
âself servingâ Maybe. Maybe not. But this made me CRY dammit.
You know how hard it is to get people to ADMIT they were wrong? How toxic and pervasive the culture of ânever admit youâre wrongâ is?⌠And EVERYTHING in society discourages you from saying sorry because you gain almost nothing from it: you get people saying youâre lying or trying to absolve yourself, meanwhile the toxic group with the mindset you just left is also calling you out. So basically you lose support from everyone, no one is happy, and there is very little to encourage people that âits okay ro admit you were wrong and takes steps to fix the harm you caused.â
The fact there is a group working to de-radicalize the Christian right and help individuals show support for something they once villified is something we need more of.
My 7 year old son was shot down by his 1st grade teacher
The american public education system in a nutshell tho
My third grade teacher actually had a conversation with my mom that I was reading to well and told her to stop having me read at home
My first grade teacher said that it was problematic that I was reading ahead of the rest of the kids in my grade and asked my parents to stop letting me read Harry Potter.
My fourth grade teacher thought it was wrong for my dad to be teaching me complex math because it fascinated me.
My elementary school music teacher hated the way my piano teacher taught me, and how I was more advanced than many of her students, and so told me, in front of my peers and my mother, that I was not good enough to participate in the state solo festival. She would not give me the form. We had to procure it from the district instead. She also hated how I excelled at reading and playing music for the recorder, and so she refused to give me my âbeltsâ (colored beads to signify our level) and humiliated me in front of the class repeatedly.
My eighth grade algebra teacher used to fail me on take home tests because I didnât solve problems exactly the way she showed us in class; I used methods that we had learned for other types of problems that also applied to these. She took points off my tests because I didnât bring a calculator even though I got 100% without it, because I was able to do it by hand. I had to call my father, who is an engineer, down to the school to shout her down and give me back my A in the class.
My 10th grade Spanish teacher yelled at me in front of the class numerous times because she didnât like the way I took notes; she thought that since I didnât write every word off the slide, I wasnât getting it all down. I had to explain to her that people who have taken advanced courses, like AP or IB classes, know that in a fast-paced learning environment you need to take quick shorthand notes that contain the necessary information rather than wasting time writing every word. She almost gave me detention.
My 11th grade English teacher gave me a poor mark on my first short essay because she believed that I was looking up unnecessarily complex words in a thesaurus to try and get better marks. The phrases in question: âlaced with expletivesâ and âbombardedâ. She wouldnât hear any defense from me.
My 11th grade history teacher failed me on an essay about the 1950s because I misread the prompt. Except the prompt wasnât words; it was a political cartoon. One of the figures was clearly president Eisenhower, but the other I couldnât place. My teacher would not tell us who it was. I labelled him as the governor of Little Rock Arkansas during the integration period, and wrote an essay about that subject. My teacher said that no, it was Joseph McCarthy, and that there was a small picture of the man in our textbook and therefore I should have recognized him instantly. Half the class, apparently, did not.
The American school system is not here to educate us or to encourage us to learn; itâs here to keep us in line and silent. Itâs here to keep us from deviating and being our own people and forming our own ideas. Donât let it win.

This was funny silent, but HILARIOUS with sound.
Dear god this was beautiful
This wonât make your blog look ugly. How could you not reblog this? REBLOGGING THIS COULD SAVE A LIFE!!!
This goes for assholes, too, guys. I know a couple who went tubing once, and they had to re-air their tubes, but the guy thought it would be funny to stick the tip of the air compressor up to her bikini trunks, the air ruptured something inside her and she died within thirty minutes.
WHAT?
The thing about this? Itâs in every pregnancy book Iâve read.
WHAT?????
Why is it in pregnancy books but not sex ed books?
Because the men in charge only care about the health and safety of women in so far as it enables them to have babies.
https://www.healthline.com/health/air-embolism#outlook
Reblogging with a link because I thought this was a legit joke. Never heard it before. Like I knew you could kill a person by inserting air into a vein but still.
WHAT THE FUCL I hate how I didnât learn this in sex Ed AT ALL
This is very true lol
Yo what the f u c k
not the normal stuff iâd reblog but, uh, this is kinda??? heckin???? important?????
I feel like I first saw this in The Joy of Sex, but itâs definitely a thing.
semi related but never point an air compressor nozzle directly at someone if they have even the smallest of cuts on them the air could enter their bloodstream and cause a heart attack

â I'm not a movie crier, â
I say, crying over a movie. Again.
Watch: Nike features badass trans duathlete Chris Mosier in its new ad
HOLY SHIT. This is amazing
Hell yeah! Go Chris
Do this four times repeatedly and youâll be out. But how does it work? Thereâs some real brain science behind it.
Weâre trying this tonight!
Itâs about time someone got around to uncovering all the cheat codes for this âhuman beingâ software. Itâs only been out for like 10,000 years.
?????????????
Iâve used this technique for about a year, and I can safely say that it has efficiently transformed my sleeping habits from several hours of struggle to fall asleep, to passing out in a matter of minutes.
Itâs a form of Alexander Technique. Itâs a technique that was designed for actors to keep their body in ready working condition and give it the best way to perform. This is the method used to calm, and center the body. Once the body is at that point it can perform anything you want it to.
Reblogging for later reference after I tried it earlier today to try to calm down. It actually does help a lot, not just for sleep but if you have problems with anxiety.
My default mental setting is âvibrating intensely in the background.â After doing this, I felt noticeably calm and relaxed - I wasnât as fixated on my breathing, I wasnât tense, my movements werenât jerky and I didnât feel like I had to be as tense as possible to be under control. 10/10 would recommend.
me gonna try it
dont wanna reblog but insomnia is a bitch for some ppl so heres for my mutuals having trouble sleeping.
@this-is-ske
This is not a criticism of anyone on tumblr, but just a bunch of ramblings on the way tumblr functions and how that affects us.Â
Iâve noticed that when posts about mental illness and chronic illness get reblogged and removed from the context of their original blog, they sort of take on a life of their own.Â
I had it happen to one of my own posts. Within the context of my own blog, where I talk daily about the realistic struggles of living with Dissociative Identity Disorder, my post was just me venting about one of those little minor struggles. But when that post got reblogged by hundreds of people and somehow spread outside of the DID community, it became a relatable post and people started reading this one single symptom of DID and reacting to it by saying, âI do this too, do I have DID?âÂ
I experienced this the other way around a few days ago. I saw a post about hyperflexibility and EDS on my dash and immediately found it extremely relatable. I read the list of âJust EDS thingsâ and thought to myself âArenât all those things normal? I experience all those things!â The next thing I knew, I was on Google looking up the Brighton Diagnostic Criteria. As it turns out, the things in that relatable post werenât really symptoms or anything close to the diagnostic criteria for EDS. They were more like minor daily annoyances that someone with EDS might have, but typical people could theoretically experience too. Removed from the context of a blog about living with EDS, and viewed by someone who doesnât know much about EDS, they gave me the wrong impression of what the symptoms of EDS looked like. This wasnât OPs fault at all! Itâs just sort of how tumblr works. Anyway, as it turns out Iâm definitely not hypermobile.Â
Tumblr is chocked full of ârelatableâ content, and I think thatâs one of the things that makes this place great. People crave connection and to feel less alone in their life experiences.Â
But Iâm begging you, please be cautious about how you interact with ârelatableâ posts and memes about mental illness and chronic illness. Just because something seems to describe your experience, doesnât mean that is the best description of your experience.Â
Relating really strongly to a post about dealing with a specific mental illness is not a sign that you have that mental illness. Many mental health symptoms overlap. While the OP could be experiencing that because they have bipolar, you could be experiencing it because you have PTSD.Â
Take relatable posts as a sign that you need help, not as a sign that you have that specific diagnosis.Â
Obviously the same holds true about physical illnesses too. Iâm probably not hypermobile, but I should probably bring up my joint pain and fatigue with my doctor at my next appointment. The fact that I related so strongly to a post about living with a chronic illness is a good sign that Iâm living with too much pain and I should talk to someone about it.Â
As a final word, I want to make it clear that this post is not anti-self-diagnosis. Please do not use it to exclude self-diagnosed people from support and recovery communities. People should be able to access support and recovery communities as they seek a proper diagnosis. Not everyone has the same access to care and treatment. This post is just a word of caution about applying labels to yourself based on finding content ârelatableâ.Â

the worst thing about being a writer is the writing
me: ugh i never have any time to write
*goes on tumblr for hours, makes aesthetic moodboards and gifsets, picks up a book from my tbr and puts it back down 17 times, stares at a blank document for hours, canât focus for shit*
me:
I'm going to stress this again: It does not make you a bad person for taking breaks from the news cycle.
Other blogs have made posts highlighting the important of taking such breaks, and people in the notes argue that doing so is a privilege and you should feel guilty for it. You should not. Please, please take care of yourselves.
Mental health is a serious issue. Humans are not meant to receive a constant stream of horrific news. Please, if you see someone taking a break, posting about other things like shows that make them happy, please don't try to drag them down. The last thing the world needs right now is more negativity.
Please respect that some people need a break from these things and show kindness to them. Don't contribute to the hate and negativity flooding everything.
This comment by @screaming-wren illustrates the difference between ignorance and breaks very well.
Please, don't get so caught up in everything you trample others walking the same path.
Be kind, be respectful, be understanding. Don't guilt mentally ill people during times like these, because speaking from personal experience, many of us already feel guilty enough for needing to step back.
I canât believe they oblitered straight men like that
@tabbran please add lemon man story to this

Honestly, I think the whole âdonât pay the writersâ thing boils down to the notion that everybody thinks they can write. Itâs the old saw about the novelist at a cocktail party having to hear someone say, for the millionth time, âIâd love to write a book someday.â
SomeoneâStephen King? Pretty sure I saw this in a Stephen King forewordâonce said theyâd like to say to a brain surgeon, âBoy, Iâd love to do brain surgery someday.â
We treat âthe ability to put words into a sentenceâ like itâs just the same as âthe ability to form a coherent narrative that engenders a variety of emotions within the reader and puts them in a scene and shows them what they didnât see beforeâ.
And thatâs like me drawing a stick figure and saying Iâm an artist.
Writers are constantly devalued because everyone thinks they have a book in them and donât realize the level of skill and commitment it takes to finish even a short story, much less a whole book.Â
This goes well beyond fandom, but man, I wouldâve hoped fandom would know better.
