Concept: in a setting where vampires exist and can only be harmed by symbols of faith (crucifixes, etc.), a James Randi-style skeptic/supernatural debunker witnesses his family murdered by vampires, and dedicated his life to hunting down what he believes are a cabal of ordinary serial killers with a blood fetish and some cheap plastic fangs. They die when he shoots them with an ordinary gun, granted holy status by the sheer force of his belief that they are actually just ordinary humans who will die when shot.
The reason the sun burns vampires is that all the plants worship it.
Oh - hmm. Uhoh. That's another mis-interpretation of shakespeare there:
(description: snippet from dracula highlighting "I sympathise with poor Desdemona when she had such a dangerous stream poured in her ear, even by a black man." )
Obviously Othello is also of its time in a way but the poisoning being poured in ears in Othello did NOT happen in that way. Iago did all the poisoning and Desdemona was, as far as my understanding of the play goes, not actually even interested in the rival lover that Othello was made to believe in. She was fully loyal to him which is the tragedy.
Lucy's interpretation of the play is being used here to show us she took it as a very different story, of Desdemona actually being caught between lovers and suffering for it. I don't even remember Iago whispering very much to Desdemona at all? I felt like the whole thing was a psychological warfare from him against Othello, who he was homoerotically obsessed with, and all the other characters were puppets to his scheme.
I'd guess it's to show us (the educated Victorian reader who knows Shakespeare as an inescapable cultural monolith, since the references are weighted towards us knowing and also knowing they're wrong) that she's not particularly media savvy, takes the silly romantic read even of a horrible tragedy where there should be no room for that interpretation.
The comment at the end is just horrible phrasing for the old period typical racism. I doubt it's directly implying anything too awful though about anyone except Lucy's interpretation of the world, since we're supposed to get the reference and know she has it wrong as well, and therefore her impression of Othello being the bad guy in Othello is hilariously off-centre.
Just feeling like getting something said after hundreds of thousands of people just got that mailed to their inboxes :')
i just wabnt to get bond burgered again =/
Burgers were a type of meat and bread confection[1] and cultural symbol[2][3] popular during the Late Capitalist[4][5] and Early Collapse[6] Periods of the Ancient Yankee State[7].

You know what. I think everyone should gen AI once, for two reasons;
1. Completely refusing to engage with something based only on what you've heard from others prevents you from developing a stance based on your personal experiences and research, and the opinions of others will always be biased (positively or negatively).
2. I think everyone should experience firsthand the unforgivable incompetence of genAI so they can know, deep in their bones, that it is worse than useless.
this is like basic foundational misogyny 101 but the fact that it's almost unconsciously ingrained to consider trousers a more "practical" alternative to skirts across the majority of human cultures does make me feel a little kicked in the head. this isn't even anything against pants, or denying that sometimes they are the best suited garment for purpose, it's just that skirts are nearly always unfairly compared as the a frivolous option, even though they're functionally not dissimilar at all. they're comfortable, capable of being tailored to suit a variety of purposes both aesthetic and functional, and simply what some people prefer. and yet, because they're so strongly tied to women and femininity, they're derided. a long skirt is an impediment; shortening a skirt is a sexual act. throughout history humans of all demographics have worn skirts and skirt-like clothing for a variety of purposes, but to wear a skirt in our enlightened modern age is a heavily gendered and politically loaded notion. and we just tolerate living like this. fucking unreal.
🚬 yeah.
Actual hot take:
I think maybe a big part of Dracula Daily's success (and perhaps also the success of all those Netflix reality tv shows like Love Is Blind??) is that media has become so asynchronous. You can never really talk to your friends about any shows because either it's "Oh, I haven't seen that but it's on my list" or "I watched that ages ago, I barely remember it, remind me who [character X] was?" or "STOP TALKING, I'm on Season 2, no spoilers!!"
And it's kind of upsetting, because we cannot really discuss media anymore the way people were able to when a show was on TV and everyone kind of experienced it together. Synchronous media is an event, it's fun, everybody can participate! Now we're drowning in recommendations of what we "should watch", and the list gets longer and longer, but even when we do get around to a particular show, we almost never properly discuss it with the friend who recommended it and it's just frustrating.
So yeah. My take is that humans actually kind of really enjoy synchronous media consumption, which has been greatly reduced by streaming, and perhaps Dracula Daily is filling that gap for us right now, you know?
YES! THIS! SO MUCH THIS! VERY MUCH THIS!
I truly miss the age of "water-cooler" media. TV shows or sporting events that people would then discuss around the metaphorical (or literal) water cooler the next work day.
It's probably also why things like the Olympics are so connecting (aside from the whole "multiple nations throughout the entire world participate" thing).
This is why I love that streaming services are starting to have shows that only release one episode per week. That weekday then becomes An Event among the show's viewers.
Plus, being forced to NOT binge something also gives you time to digest what you watched, instead of letting it just wash over you in one fell swoop. You have time to discuss it. Time to theorize about it. Time to create your own fan creations before the next bit is revealed.
MAN! I just miss synchronous media so much!
(Also, yes, I will drag the corpse of this post out every year. Because this is VERY MUCH why I participate in Dracula Daily annually now.

if you're an adult behaving immaturely i'm not going to "treat you like a child" about it because i have a lot of respect for children as an oppressed and vulnerable class of people. i will however treat you like an embarrassment. which you are being.
