The no fakes act is meant to be protect you from AI and deep fakes

“Anyone who creates an AI-generated recreation of a person’s voice or appearance without authorization could be sued.

Licenses allowing use of a person’s likeness must be in writing, describe the intended uses specifically, and can't exceed 10 years while the person is alive.

These rules apply to contracts signed after the law takes effect; existing contracts are grandfathered.”

The newest added thing is the ability to fight against a take down (though if the way to fight back is good or not reminds in question)

“As currently written, NO FAKES proposes to tackle the problems of misleading AI-generated replicas by creating a broad property right in someone's look, voice, and general style.

However, there are all kinds of First Amendment-protected expression that would be swept under the NO FAKES regime—think about parody, news, criticism.”

“NO FAKES also does a laughable job of protecting artists from use of their image in misleading ways.

It doesn’t create a privacy right, but rather a property right that can easily be signed away—as major studios and record labels are almost certain to require in their contracts with artists.

As a result, NO FAKES actually creates a new avenue for the exploitation of artists by companies instead of protection from misleading replicas.

The bill also makes it trivially easy for protected speech to be censored.

It is a supercharged version of the already flawed copyright takedown regime.

It would essentially require platforms to institute filters that don't just look for exact matches of copyrighted material, as current filters do, but anything that might be a digital replica.

Even though the latest version of this bill adds some forms of redress for bad faith takedowns, those provisions lack the teeth required to deter a malicious actor.”

I don’t understand why people don’t reblog things on tumblr anymore

That is how you participate in fandom on this godforesaken website/app. By reblogging, not likes, REBLOGGING

What happened? Why has this changed that people don’t reblog stuff??? Genuinely want to know because people are very much using repost/share features on sites like IG and Bsky, but they are doing that less and less here where the site was literally built to function via reposts which we just call reblogs on tumblr.

Like I get that no one owes anyone “engagement” or whatever it’s called these days - but this ain’t about that. It’s about sharing our love for a thing PUBLICLY (dare I say socially) and hoping it’ll find new people to also love it PUBLICLY. (Don’t get me started on my old man yells at cloud speech about fandom being privatized/gate-kept and hidden in discord servers)

if you privatize your enjoyment of fandom creations, fandom creators are going to start privatizing their creativity.

art will stop being posted. fics will stop being updated. blogs and ao3 accounts will disappear. some of these creatives will just start sending their works to people they know will enjoy them; others will stop creating entirely. and it will be because they got tired of being ignored in favor of secret little discord bookclubs and shunned to the hidden likes section on people's blogs.

ingredience:

lemons/limes (this needs to make up the bulk of the fruit being used, like at least 80%)

whatever other fruits or fruit scraps you want, plus any herbs/other flavorings you want to try. by fruit scraps I mean things like cherry pits, apple peels, pineapple cores, strawberry ends, things like that.

granulated white sugar, the coarser the better, 50% by weight of total citrus rinds + 100% by weight of any additional fruit. you'll measure this after you prep the fruit.

water as needed

equipment:

a few nonmetallic mixing bowls

a mesh strainer

a chinoise, ricer or some cheesecloth

a kitchen scale

a citrus juicer or reamer (manual or electric)

a potato masher

juice the citrus through a strainer - saving all rinds -  and refrigerate the juice for the time being. dice the rinds and other fruits if any, keeping the rinds separate. make note of weights, and measure your sugar.

 Place sugar in a large nonmetallic bowl. If using non-citrus fruits and/or any other flavorings, mix them in with the sugar and mash with potato masher. add diced citrus rinds, mix thoroughly, and mash again. cover and let stand at room temperature for at least 4 hours. this allows the sugar to draw out flavors that would otherwise get discarded with the rinds, and the rinds' acids should be enough to dissolve the sugar into a syrup.

Afterward, mash one last time, then collect the syrup by pressing the macerated mixture through a strainer/chinoise or ricer, or squeeze it through cheesecloth. if you want, this can be saved as a standalone syrup at this point, for use in cocktails or desserts. if not, slowly pour the reserved juice through the solids to to help get the remaining syrup out, and squeeze/press again. do the same thing one more time with warm water (roughly the same amount of water as juice). discard solids (or try making sangria with them!).

taste the mixture and add more water if necessary. a stronger mix is totally fine if you anticipate serving over ice on a hot day, or adding booze, or if there was a lot of non-sour fruit. keep in mind that it will taste a bit less sweet once it's chilled. pour into a pitcher and refrigerate.

citrus oils will float to the top, so stir/shake before serving. love you. enjoy.
