The God of Genders
In the Catholic tradition, gender is a feature of the material world. Spirits may possess a gender, but only as the shadow of their earthly lives. Angels and demons are genderless, they have never experienced the kind of existence that would require it; saints and souls retain their gender. This goes all the way to the top, as God the Son was once the Word, a genderless spiritual entity, but became male when the time came for His incarnation. God the Holy Spirit, meanwhile, remains genderless and transcendant. And then God the Father is male.
God the Father is male, as male as I myself am, so vehemently that it is considered to verge upon blasphemy to refer to Him otherwise. We are created in His likeness, male and female, but make no mistake. He is male in ways that are not female; He is not female in ways that are not also male.
It's interesting to me that a god could never be female. That's absurd and impossible, spiritual beings aren't gendered and there's only one God anyway. And he's male.
I just thought that was interesting.
