at the end of "firekeeper's daughter" author angeline boulley reveals that her goal was to write "an Ojibwe nancy drew" and I think it's ideal to have that in mind before you read the book. bc this is a book where multiple teenagers die from gun violence or meth overdoses, but it doesn't feel like it wallows in gratuitous violence. far more tactful and respectful than what I remember from nancy drew. but the teen protagonist is always quick-thinking and pushes forward even in life-threatening situations. anyway, I liked it. even though it kept suggesting that ann arbor has a women's hockey team
