Gentle parenting is becoming a trend I think we should extend the tip videos and discussions to disabled and neurodivergent people as well
âLets go to a quieter place to help you calm downâÂ
âWhat's the matter? You can tell me, or you can write it downâÂ
âHow do you feel about your homework? Do you understand it? Is it too easy or too hard?â
âIf you canât write or read your work, iâll read it out, you tell me what you think the answer is and I will write it down for youâÂ
âItâs been a long day, you take a rest and iâll finish up your chores since you are out of energyâ
âNeeds always come before learningâÂ
âIâd like you to give it a go, but if you arenât there yet, that's okâÂ
âWe will start getting ready at this time, to go at this timeâ
âWhat are you interested in right now?â
I completely agree! Iâm very glad that gentle parenting is becoming more of a trend, but itâs basically what disabled and neurodivergent people have been asking for for years. Giving children the space to express themselves is so important, especially in disabled and nd kids because it can prevent masking from starting at a young age and we can all get proper accommodations and accessibility from the start, skipping over the years of stress and pain that comes from being denied to act the way you need to
Gentle parenting should be the norm, not the exception. It's the approach i plan on taking when i have kids.
It's so important that kids grow up in the right environment, otherwise there can be a whole host of problems that occur. Gentle parenting solves most of those. There are sometimes where you obviously need to be firm, but even then, i feel like you can still be gentle in your approach.
There are some kids where this approach might not even work, but i feel like the reason an approach wouldn't work is because you aren't accommodating to the individual child, which is SO important.
If you aren't treating your own child well, like you treat them like property and not an individual person deserving of love and respect, you probably shouldn't have children.
I agree parenting should be adjusted to the individual child and, hell, even to the individual situation. The same child who may need a gentle approach most of the time might need a more stern approach for some occasions.
