I hadn’t finished watching Yellowjackets yet but I keeps seeing the Wilderness baby Whitaker edits and stuff and it’s making me think about an au where Shauna puts her baby into foster care once they’re rescued. (I know some Yellowjackets spoilers but this will probably be super inaccurate to the series)

Dennis hasn’t had much, if any, contact with Shauna or the others since he was adopted as a kid, but when Tai is sending the fake reporter to test them she asks her to go after Dennis too.

Jessica hadn’t intended to corner him at work but she couldn’t find a recent address for him. She waits outside one day and catches Dennis and Trinity headed in for their shift. She asks to speak to him alone but Trinity refuses to leave his side (not after what happened to Dana).

Jessica does the standard reporter routine, offers Dennis a bunch of money and promises all sorts, but he shoots her down. He doesn’t like the thought of all his business being out there for people to read about.

Plus, Dennis was too young when they left the wilderness to really remember much of anything, so even if he wanted to (and trust him, the money is tempting) he wouldn’t really have anything to say. Maybe if she had asked Dennis a few weeks ago when he was still living in the hospital he would have thought about making some stuff up, but rn he’s got something resembling stable with Trinity.

Jessica gives Dennis her card and leaves.

Trinity is relentless about it, constantly asking for information, he gives her the basics to appease her (his mum was in a plane crash when she was pregnant and was stranded for a while, but he was basically a baby when he was put up for adoption so, no, Trinity, he doesn’t remember anything) but she keeps asking. Later he snaps at her and she drops it. Dennis makes Trinity promise she won’t tell anyone.

But it unfortunately doesn’t stay secret for long though.

The only evidence she had of being alive, was the sight of her breath fanning through the frozen air of New Hampshire. The snow was a cruel cushion that let her rest, allowing her to bask in the last remnants of freedom. They were coming, help was coming. She could hear the sounds of her people, of her closest friends, celebrating, cheering. After two and a half cruel years; two summers, three winters, the land of the living knew they too—were amongst them. 

Maybe if she didn’t know what was waiting on the other side for her, she too would celebrate. If she didn’t feel the weight of blood, grief and hunger that had made home in her bones. That place wasn’t home anymore, and she knew now that maybe it never was. It wasn’t too late, right? Her head tilted sideways to look through the trees that surrounded their clearing, the endless snow dressed trees that went on for acres, unending and unforgiving. 

“I can’t go back” She whispered softly, her eyes glossing over slightly as her brows furrowed. A girl stepped forward from the trees? from the snow? Her hair was brown, long, and she was oh so beautiful. Despite the cold, she wore a long white dress and her hair blew through the wind like an angel. “You have to.” She encouraged softly, crouching beside where [REDACTED] lay in the snow. 

“I can’t, I can’t leave you” The girl whispered weakly, voice trembling as she desperately tried to reach for the brunette. Her expression held the same smile it had that day, a gentle look of acceptance as she closed the distance between their hands. “You have to live, I’m home. It’s your turn.” Cecelia assured as she slowly moved to lay beside the girl who lay in the snow. Their hair tangled together as their heads turned to face each other, even as the cold snow burned their cheeks, and the wind hushed into their ears harshly. 

“I’m sorry.” Her brows furrowed slightly, eyes squeezing shut as a small shiver rid through her body. The ghost of the brunette beside her smiled, “it’s time.”

And even if she feels Natalie go still, even when she expects her to pull away, she doesn't. Then her forhead is on hers, and realizing she's shaking but not pulling away... just kisses her first.
