Nights have been just a lil weightier lately. Where can I exchange the missing for recovering, the uselessness of the grief again for laughter and pingponging unhinged shit from the internet?
Ventilating Tutorial - Tailored Swiss lace Doll Head cap using a ventilating needle - Quick Tips:
quick tip 1/4: "Align your lace weave around the head horizontally so your knotted hair will part in a natural way."
quick tip 2/4: "To insure your cap stays in place, make a chin strap with a thread by attaching both sides of the lace together under the chin of your doll. "
quick tip 3/4: "If you plan to ventilate your wig with heat resistant synthetic fibers, you can also use them to sew your cap. Fold one in two and make a first knot, then do a seam with the needle. "
quick tip 4/4: "Ventilating through the 3 layers of lace at the back of the head can be quite tricky and tedious. Instead, sew the top part's edge horizontally and cut the excess lace. Then leave a narrow overlap at the bottom of the cap. "
--------------
I hope those can add some details to the original tutorial video about making the tailored doll head cap =^.^=
Have fun Ventilating !
How do you get your hair under your wig + what kind of wig do you use??
I use a technique called hair wrapping. Most folks in the theatre world use pin curls, but I’m terrible at pin curls so I chose the hair wrap. I’ve also found the wrap is actually lower profile (less bulky), and therefore much better suited to the Phantom’s “Valentino” style wig.
The two wigs I have are both full lace, fully hand-tied (ventilated), meaning that the base is made 100% of delicate wig lace and each hair is tied on to the lace by hand. Each wig took me about 100 or so hours to complete. This is the exact same style (full lace) as the Phantom wigs in the original stage productions.
That totally natural, fully exposed hairline created the need for the full lace wig. It’s impossible to get that same look without at least a lace-front wig; going full lace allows that low profile the Valentino wig is famous for. Full lace wigs are usually prohibitively expensive for most cosplayers, so I had to learn to ventilate my own in order to get the correct look.
Current progress on my toupee wig for Keg and the lace hairline bits I’m hand-ventilating so it looks a little more natural. Instead of... y’know... a gingery helmet.

Do you know which style of Arda wig would be best for Junkrat from Overwatch? I've looked up spiking tutorials, so I think I'm covered on the actual how-to-do-it, but I don't have money for their lacefronts and I'm not sure how the regular ones would look when they're swept back. I thought a Lulu or Magnum long /might/ work, but I just want to be certain that I'm not spending a bunch of money on something that doesn't look right. Also, how could I color the tips orange? If you answer, thanks!
When you sweep back a regular wig, it doesn’t look like the hair is coming out of your head. If you play with the styling a bit you might be able to make it look a bit less unnatural but it won’t look the same.
You can add your own mesh fabric to the front of a wig and ventilate hairs into it, it will take some work but that will give you the same/a similar look to the lace front.
A trick that hides the wig’s hairline and doesn’t involve ventilating is adding a glued hairline. You glue bits of hair to the front of the wig so that they extend past the wig’s mesh. Once dry, you take a small pair of scissors and snip off the excess to create a spikey hairline. Then you style the long parts into your wig’s style.
Hope this gives you some inspiration!— Duckie / Admin
Bidding starts at $99 for this hand-tied wig worth $499. Once a bid is placed the $199 Buy-it-Now disappears.
