How do you get your hair under your wig + what kind of wig do you use??
I use a technique called hair wrapping. Most folks in the theatre world use pin curls, but I’m terrible at pin curls so I chose the hair wrap. I’ve also found the wrap is actually lower profile (less bulky), and therefore much better suited to the Phantom’s “Valentino” style wig.
The two wigs I have are both full lace, fully hand-tied (ventilated), meaning that the base is made 100% of delicate wig lace and each hair is tied on to the lace by hand. Each wig took me about 100 or so hours to complete. This is the exact same style (full lace) as the Phantom wigs in the original stage productions.
That totally natural, fully exposed hairline created the need for the full lace wig. It’s impossible to get that same look without at least a lace-front wig; going full lace allows that low profile the Valentino wig is famous for. Full lace wigs are usually prohibitively expensive for most cosplayers, so I had to learn to ventilate my own in order to get the correct look.
