"CYPRIA 7: THE SERPENT AND THE SPARROWS"
The great kings gather at Aulis, where a serpent devours eight sparrow chicks and their mother before turning to stone, and the seer Calchas interprets the omen as nine years of struggle and victory in the tenth. Sailing east the fleet overshoots Troy and lands at Mysia by mistake, where the king Telephus, son of Heracles, defends his kingdom until coming against Achilles he becomes entangled in a vine and receives a grave spear wound to the thigh. A devastating storm then scatters the fleet, forcing the kings home for repairs, while Telephus receives a prophecy from Apollo that only the one who wounded him can heal him. Telephus sails for Argos disguised as a beggar, promises to guide the fleet to Troy in exchange for healing, and Achilles scrapes rust from his Pelian ash spear onto the wound, and the fleets gather once more at Aulis.
