Charname and Alora, with boosted strength stats, backstab a Greater Basilisk to death in five seconds. Great fun. More on that here.
A Greater Basilisk gets taken out in 10 seconds with two well-planned backstabs and a magic missile. Took me a lot of attempts to get this right, but damn is it satisfying when it works!
Charname and Alora both have the 2nd level mage spell "Strength" cast on them, boosting their strength to 18/50 and increasing their backstab damage. Alora backstabs first, doing 33 damage and causing the basilisk to turn around, at which point Charname is behind it and can cause 39 damage with her own backstab. Edwin then sends a magic missile from outside the basilisk's field of vision and the basilisk is toast.
If you get super lucky the basilisk decides to merely poison Alora instead of petri-frying her, but alas. Not this time.
Also my Charname is a fighter/thief, so she could drink a strength potion. I tried boosting her strength to 25, which increases her backstab damage to an amazing 56 and allows her and Alora to finish the basilisk on their own. But I wanted to show a more typical scenario that uses a renewable source of strength boosts, you probably wouldn't waste a strength potion on a single enemy.
(Still, I put a video of STR 21 Charname and STR 18/50 Alora finishing the basilisk in 5 seconds without getting hurt here.)
Backstab is a really fun mechanic once you get the hang of it. You're able to do 89 points of damage (72 without the potion) in a matter of seconds with two level 7 characters without having to worry about casting time or area of effect damage like with magic attacks.
