vignette • Sylus & Sylus' daughter! Sigyn • super fluffy • now playing: Pretty Little Baby by Connie Francis • art by @aweelou-sketches • a/n: Just so you're wondering Sigyn is my original character who's supposed to be sorceress! MC's and Dragon! Sylus' daughter and here's a cute lil scenario of when she was just a baby.
Sylus sat perched in his armchair, one ankle resting neatly over the other, a thick hardcover book spread open in his hands. The cover gleamed faintly in the lamplight: Cognitive Development in Infants. His expression was one of intense focus — brows knit, glasses low on his nose, every few seconds murmuring under his breath as if committing the text to memory.
The late afternoon light fell golden through the curtains, pooling softly over the bed where baby Sigyn lay surrounded by a fortress of plush toys — a furry bear, a pastel dragon, a crinkly star. For a while, she was content — gurgling, squishing, occasionally gnawing at a stuffed bear’s ear. But her patience, much like her father’s, had its limits.
Sigyn gurgled softly, her small hands pawing at the air. When her soft babbling went unanswered, she puffed her tiny cheeks and glared in Sylus’s direction. He didn’t even glance up, too absorbed in memorizing every developmental milestone.
But he heard her, of course. He always did. But he hid his amusement behind the edge of the page, curious to see what she’d do next.
A determined look crossed Sigyn’s tiny face. She picked up a pillow — or rather, wrestled with it until it tumbled off the bed — and watched it fall. Then another. And another. One by one, the pillows stacked below, forming a wobbly pile by the bedside.
Then, as if contemplating her masterpiece, Sigyn tossed the final pillow so it dangled halfway off the bed, supported precariously by its edge. Sylus raised a single brow, an amused spark lighting his crimson eyes.
And then, with a babble of determination, Sigyn crawled to the edge.
For a moment, Sylus thought she might actually make it. But gravity had other plans.
One plump leg swung over — and then, in an instant of infant overconfidence, she pitched forward and landed face-first into the pillow pile with a muffled whump.
Sylus’s composure shattered instantly. A laugh burst out of him, rich and deep, echoing around the quiet room. He threw his head back, hand coming up to wipe a tear from the corner of his eye as he tried — tried — to breathe.
Below, Sigyn made an angry noise somewhere between a cry and a complaint.
“Oh, don’t give me that,” he chuckled, still catching his breath.
Sylus wiped a tear from the corner of his eye and watched as she valiantly crawled her way across the floor toward him.
Moments later, a small weight began to climb his leg, determined and uncoordinated, until she finally hauled herself onto his chest. He looked down — and there she was, his little girl, crimson eyes glimmering like miniature mirrors of his own, staring up at him with the most unimpressed expression an infant could manage.
Sylus’s grin softened. He reached out and tightly squished her round cheeks between his fingers. “You’re like a circus monkey,” he teased.
Sigyn squealed, puffing her cheeks again and smacking his chin with her tiny fists in a series of harmless thumps.
“Ouch,” he said flatly, laughing again as he leaned forward and wrapped his hands around her. The book and glasses slipped quietly onto the side table, forgotten.
“Alright, alright,” he murmured, pressing a kiss to the crown of her soft brown hair. “No more laughing. You win.”
Sigyn responded with a satisfied coo, snuggling into his chest, her earlier irritation forgotten. Sylus leaned back in the chair, a faint smile still tugging at his lips. His heart, usually so controlled, felt full — and as he closed his eyes, he thought that maybe, just maybe, this was better for her development than any book ever written.

SIGYN
In Norse mythology, Sigyn stands as a profound symbol of unwavering loyalty, resilience, and quiet strength. Known as the goddess of victory and loyalty, she is the devoted wife of Loki and the mother of Vali* and Narvi. Far from the passive figure depicted in later retellings, Sigyn is a powerful and enduring presence within the Norse pantheon, often called “Loki’s Treasure” or “The Delight of Loki’s Hall” by modern pagans.
Sigyn is Loki’s most steadfast supporter, standing by him when all others have turned away. This loyalty is most evident during Loki’s brutal punishment for his role in Baldr’s death. After Odin turned Vali into a wolf, the poor boy lost his mind and slaughtered his brother Narvi. Sigyn, though heartbroken, did not retreat in grief. Instead, she rose in defiance.
While Loki was chained beneath the earth, tortured by venom dripping from a serpent’s fangs, Sigyn shielded her husband as best she could, holding a bowl to catch the poison. Unfortunately, she had to leave from time to time to empty bowl, and the poison burned Loki’s flesh, causing him to convulse in agony. His screams are believed to cause earthquakes.
Modern pagans associate her with the fox, an animal symbolizing cunning and adaptability, mirroring her own quiet yet fierce nature.
* Vali Lokison, not to be confused with Vali Odinson, God of Vengeance, son of Odin and the unfortunate Giantess Rindr.

Sigyn from the Mechanisms' Bifrost Incident portrait redraw.
But Sigyn, his wife, stands by him, and holds a dish under the venom drops. Sigyn's way takes such courage. Her way is a quiet way of personal mindfulness and dedication. It is a simple way. It is a terrifying way.
