But Sigyn, his wife, stands by him, and holds a dish under the venom drops. Sigyn's way takes such courage. Her way is a quiet way of personal mindfulness and dedication. It is a simple way. It is a terrifying way.
but like why does it have to be Sigyn holding the bowl why does she have to suffer
can't she just prop the bowl on Loki's face or give the snake a bib
I want to talk about Sigyn for a bit. She is one of the most important deities in my practice and it's not for the reasons you think.
It's not because she's Loki's wife. It happens that she IS but I would have loved her and wanted to devote myself to her even if she wasn't.
Not much is really known about her, as is the same about a lot of goddesses in Norse Myth. What we know for sure is she is Loki's wife, she holds a bowl over Loki to catch the poison from the snake above Loki's head that drips acid into his face. Unfortunately, the bowl must be emptied every so often and when it does Loki is said to cause Earthquakes when he trembles from pain.
There are speculative things we know: we know that is possibly thought to have been a Valkyrie. Her name means Victorious (female) friend or Friend of Victory. From that kenning it would be presempteous not to think she doesn't have at least some aspect of war attached to her. The most obvious thing would be to associate her with Valkyries.
There are Valkyries that are also Goddesses. Eir, for instance, is a goddess of healing but she is still a Valkyrie. And wouldn't healing be useful in warfare? There are some that think because of the "sigr" form of her name that might possibly be a daughter of Odin; because he has many kennings with that same root word.
This is purely speculation.
Why do I honor Sigyn? I honor her because she is what I would like to be/try to be. I try to hold space for those that need a kind word; I love with absolutely my entire being. If I love someone I will not abandon them and I don't care if everyone is against me. Sigyn is a being of devotion true enough, but she is also the victorious one. Her children were taken from her, her husband was made to suffer until the end of the days. And yet, she still remained true to herself. She never let that harden her heart toward those she loved. She defends them with every bit of her considerable strength. Sigyn is both sweet and lethal; soft and hard. A goddess that rewards the loyal and those that love devotedly but absolutely a goddess that will go to war for those she loves and I think would have no mercy on those that hurt them.
Happy Imbolc 🐑
I was very excited to have gotten my new Loki and Sigyn statues in time for Imbolc, especially because I like to honor Sigyn, my heath goddess, at this time. I have always associated Sigyn with spring and to me the transitional period between the dead of winter and the dawning of spring is a time for Loki and Sigyn.

Funny how, in my room, the only place where there is a spider web is directly above Loki and Sigyn's altar.
I have several altars in my room, like the Kemetic ones and Hades for example, but only Loki has a spiderweb.
Obviously I will leave it like that.
I met Sigyn tonight.
Not really what I expected at all. I’ve always been hesitant around the feminine aspects of divinity, probably because of my own experiences dealing with women. (I’m an autistic, mostly female-presenting person, but I’m very much non-binary — didn’t have a word for it when I was younger, but I embrace that term wholeheartedly — and connecting with women/girls has always been more difficult for me.) But Sigyn isn’t like most women I’ve met or goddesses I’ve tried to connect with. I immediately felt comfortable talking with her. Even though most depictions of her I’ve seen have presented her as very feminine, I had the impression that, while she’s comfortable presenting as a goddess, she has more in common with Loki than I thought.
I think we’re going to get along very well.
Just stopped listening to an audio book cause it said that Hel was the daughter of Loki and Sigyn
There's some misinfo that's easy to aquire but how do you fuck up that bad
There were other bits of misinfo I was willing to be open to as different variations, cause that's popular in Norse mythology
But after that I realized the author just didn't know what she was talking about
The names Angrboda and Sigyn don't even look or sound the same
This author also said Loki and Odin were stepbrothers, like gd 😭
