None of the closer shots of this dress look right. I gained six pounds overnight, six days before taking this picture - which I remember because it’s so weird. You can’t gain six pounds overnight, so it must be water. Except it hadn’t gone away by Thursday, so, guess it was real, then? I had been doing 6-8 hours of dancing each day, which pointed to water retention as the cause; but I had also been chain-scoffing Colin the Caterpillar Sours and not counting them at all, which supported the hypothesis that gummy retention was the cause. 

On Thursday I fitted my RDC4 costumes, and on Friday the six pounds of water disappeared, and my costumes were hanging off me. I had to safety-pin the hems of Hannibal’s jumpsuit trousers because they were hanging so low they were a trip hazard. This dress is not bra-friendly, so I had to tape it to my skin to stay decent. The waist was pooching out in a way that couldn’t be solved by safety pins.

My hosiery: beige fishnets, as usual.

Bedelia’s earrings: “large squareish diamond center surrounded by tiny diamonds in gold setting”, unknown brand. I don’t believe these are the ones worn in the scene. 

$ My earrings: faux-diamond square studs.

I do not like wigs and will not wear them if I can avoid it. Coloured spray is only supposed to cover the join between the wig and your real hair, but my own hair is thin enough that it can work. The problem is that you have to spray it onto finished styled hair; you can’t brush it through. I used Kryolan Loamy Yellow.

My RDC4 Weekend

Keeping it brief this year! Last year’s con was really rough - my anxiety was through the roof, I had a panic attack and spent a lot of time crying. Since then my life got a lot worse and then... it started to get better and I’ve been trying to be a lot more positive. So this weekend was such a different experience for me! My anxiety and dysphoria came on a few times, but only mildly so, and I had a fantastic weekend hanging out with friends and making new ones. 

One of my main worries had been photos/selfies - I’ve been trying to take more lately to record my journey as much as anything. But they are still a subject of dysphoria inducing anxiety for me - so I was really worried how that would go. I was really surprised to find that I loved how all my photos came out! I look like the real me in them, and that can only continue to get better!!

I’m not going to tag anyone for fear of missing some off lol, but I just want to thank everyone I met at the con for the wonderful time I had in your company. It was such a pleasure to be reunited with friends in person and also meet and talk with so many that I hadn’t before.  

Thank you to everyone who gave me gifts - I continue to be astounded by the creativity and talent in our ranks! And I hope everyone that wanted one of my rarepairs cards got one.

Guests

After only having the spoons for Hugh and Bryan last year, and having them sign personal items, I FINALLY started to collect signatures on my Hannibal book. I’ve left plenty of room for Hugh, Bryan, Mads and more!

Meeting the guests was amazing! 

I spoke with Katharine about Ginger Snaps and we held hands a lot lol. I also gave her one of the murderwives cards I’d made to hand out and she said she loved it and would put it on her fridge. She drew me a frickin’ horse on my book!! When we had the photoshoot I asked for a hug and she smelt so good I told her that, and her reply (as she had been sick) was “oh thank god!”

Kacey was adorable and I told her if she’s ever in Bristol I would hook her up with drag makeup lessons with a professional friend of mine. She squee’d! 

Tom, oh my gosh! I said I hoped we hadn’t overwhelmed him too much and his face lit up and he said not at all and how much he’d enjoyed the weekend and how respectful we all are. He drew me a little scarf and was just the sweetest guy! His queue was so long! He really took the time to chat with the fans and take an interest. 

Joe... was Joe drunk all day?? Possibly. Again was super nice - took on the challenge of beating his sister’s horse by drawing a pig and telling me in a Mason Verger voice that he had to concentrate on drawing it. 

Rutina... OMG. I am so in love with her, even more so after this weekend. At the photoshoot I asked if she would pet me like a tiger and so she was like “wait, wait.” as she posed us. Meeting her for autos, I almost cried... I maybe did blub at her a little. She was so gracious and lovely. 

Vlad. Oh my. I said that I found him utterly charming and he made Chip make a note - to keep a list of the all the nice things people say about him. He was a sweetheart. 

Ricky... The photos were just... it was a joy to be in the room and watch other people have theirs. He insisted on a hug before each and a kiss after. As he kissed my cheek in my photo I just said my thanks and went to walk away but then he called me back because I hadn’t kissed him. He was a sweety the whole weekend and fun on the dancefloor! He really is just so full of the zest of life, I will definitely sign up if he goes into motivational speaking!
