The thing about realistically writing characters who speak very eloquently and in long-form metaphors most of the time (I say realistically because yes, people do talk like that irl sometimes! I am one of them.) is that you have to offset the flowery speech witb the occasional silly sounding (in comparison) simple statemnet. This is why Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham have successful dialogue to me.
Hannibal will talk circles around people about the poetry and slow inevitability of their own demise and consumption and then slip in “They feel compelled to go coco!”
And then of course we have Will Graham. He’s exactly as bad as Hannibal despite fandom depiction. “With noise and clarity” “Guns lack intimacy” *extended fishing metaphors*. But also. “I guess this makes us even. Even Steven.”
You gotta keep people in their toes. Yk
