//I love this paragraph so much because it shows how Daniel is a weird, morbid, twisted guy and he loves Armand for exactly the monster he is, rather than being blinded to his nature by his beauty or something. Which is why I think Armand and Daniel, for all of their problems, have something real: Daniel has always seen through his masks and his appearance and still been fascinated by the creature beneath the shiny veneer.

First and foremost, yes he is genuinely trying to engage with the program without any trickeries or underlying motives. According to Assad, he’s on Step 5. And his addiction is lying and living in survival mode.

The problem with Armand is he’s been alive for 500+ years, but he’s spent a lot of them experiencing “collapses” and each time he’s had to rebuild himself to the best of his ability. No one including himself has given him the time of day to evaluate these collapses and address the core issues of why his life keeps shattering. No one has offered him any help to do so because he’s a manipulative asshole who can’t do anything but lie. Fair enough. But it means he’ll only keep spiraling.

Nevertheless, here he is facing another collapse and trying to find himself in it honestly. Not as Amadeo or Armand, but Arun. The little boy inside the layers and layers of lies before he became the rag doll. He knows that people won’t forgive him, but he’s trying to apologize in earnest. And I do mean trying, because even Assad doesn’t know if he’s capable of doing this.

But his conversation with Daniel with Dubai is a start. He could lie and manipulate about a million things, but he won’t lie about Daniel being able to crack him. It’s the entire reason everyone was freed from that cursed lifestyle they built for themselves.
