Always! this ship/duo has grown on me for quite some time

It gave me new (to me) ships and a trio and duos and just new family dynamic (dysfunctional found family-the vamps)

apologies in advance if this doesn't make sense my brain is a mess of jumbled thoughts

So

Why did pyro kill avid?

There are a few potential motives I can think of as to why pyro would kill avid, some of which less likely than others

1. Avid parallels pyro; he represents a "weaker" part of Pyro. Pyro wants to get rid of this weakness within himself, and killing avid symbolises that

We see this in avids devotion to Scott, similarly to how Pyro acted with Scott previously, Avid is now very close to Scott and seeking approval. We know that Pyro did this because he knew that Scott had power, in a sense being close to Scott provides him with protection, he is safer aligned with Scott than against him (slight question: did Pyro realise this earlier? or was this just an instinctual behaviour that he is only now realising?) Pyro now knows that Scott doesn't really care about him, only using him to further his own goals, but Avid still represents this part of pyro that still clings to Scott for security. Thus, by killing avid Pyro not only symbolically kills his devotion to Scott, but also drives Scott away from him due to Scott's (close?) relationship with Avid.

2. Avid bullied Pyro and he seeks retribution

As the audience, we now know that Pyro's main motivation is to kill those that have wronged him with his newfound vampirism; showing those around him that he is not pathetic and getting revenge for the years of bullying that he faced. Avid, throughout the series, has effectively bullied Pyro: insinuating that he is a beast and irredeemable (which links to how his family wrote him out of the will and abandoned him after he murdered czeslaw due to his incessant bullying), as well as otherwise calling Pyro pathetic etc.. Avid is very similar to Czeslaw in a sense, and Pyro has already killed one of them. We see how at the start, before Pyro revealed his motivation of wanting to kill everyone, Avid effectively made him an outcast from the rest of Oakhurst, forcing him to become the monster that he is now (perhaps without this Pyro may have been better, perhaps he was always destined to end up this way. Either way, Avid certainly made it worse). Pyro killing Avid makes perfect sense as he directly stated that he wants to kill the people that have wronged him, and amongst those of Oakhurst Avid has certainly wronged him the most (though I must say I believe the entire town has called him pathetic. which just really hurts)

3. Avid managed to join the coven despite all of his previous actions (mayhaps jealousy on Pyro's behalf?)

Avid, since he came to Oakhurst, has been screaming about how all vampires are evil and should be killed. But the second he is turned, he is welcomed into the coven by Scott and arguably gets closer to Scott than Pyro was ever able to despite truthfully doing less (early episode Pyro craving Scott's validation and wishing to do anything for him, yet ultimately getting abandoned in favour of the one person who was the most anti-vampire since the beginning). Pyro does not believe that Avid is worthy of getting this coven after all he has done against the vampires and thus wants to kill Avid as punishment for his sins

4. Pyro has begun to embrace this "beast" that everyone is calling him, and wants to kill everyone, Avid was just convenient

This reason is more of a potential overarching reason rather than why he would kill Avid specifically. It could be Pyro'a murderous tendencies getting unearthed when Owem informs him that they need to kill all the humans to leave in ep6 and the ensuing bloodshed, and due to some of the other reasons Avid is the ideal target for this. It could also be due to Pyro spending time with owen, and them slowly becoming more similar as he subconsciously picks up some of Owen's worldview over time, or Pyro internalising what everyone else called him: a "beast"

5. Avid is a liability

This is what Pyro tells the others as an excuse after he killed Avid, and - in my eyes - that's the full extent of it: an excuse. Since turning, Avid has done very little to show that he would be against the vampires, his only liability this being his incompetence, which does not truly harm the vampires as he could act as cannon fodder for the rest of them. Pyro is arguably more of a liability than Avid is, especially in the eyes of the other vampires, with him previously considering offers of a cure and now committing vampire-on-vampire violence. Pyro likely merely tells the others this to try and cover his more selfish reasons for killing avid, trying to act as though his actions were on behalf of the entire coven and not just because he had a vendetta.

Further analysis on Pyro (specifically Pyro/Scott):

I think Scott becoming closer with Avjd is what caused Pyro to snap and realise that his motivation is not for Scott's approval. It gives him an outsider perspective to see what their relationship is like, and an opportunity to understand that he was only close to Scott because he knew that Scott was powerful, not because of any affection on either of their behalf. Pyro, now being the third-oldest vampire in Oakhurst, believes that he has enough power to stand up against Scott, which is what has lead to this seeming motivation shift in the last few episodes, and him now being somewhat aligned with Owen due to their similar motivations and goals (kill everyone because humanity made them outcasts)

My overall thoughts

I think Pyro primarily killed Avid as a form of revenge for the bullying he suffered due to him, the other reasons were just further motivation for something he already wanted to do.
