i wish every person who makes posts that include some variation of "do this or this bad thing will happen to you" / "reblog or this bad thing will happen to you" / "interacting with this post in the 'wrong' way will make this bad thing happen to you" a very STOP FUCKING DOING THAT.
OCD 101
What is OCD?
OCD is a disorder characterized by obsessions and compulsions. This means that people with OCD experience severe recurring intrusive thoughts (obsessions), which cause them to perform an action to temporarily ease the distress (compulsions).
OCD can also come in a variation called "pure O", which is when the compulsions are mental only.
The intrusive thoughts in the obsessions are egodystonic. This means that they go against your values and beliefs. For example, if you care a lot about not being racist, you may have intrusive thoughts that you are racist. These intrusive thoughts are not things that you "secretly want/like" and are not indicative of your moral character.
Intrusive thoughts can come in the form of words, images, sounds, or "urges". They can even provoke a groinal response, where you may experience a physical response of arousal; this does not indicate that you're actually aroused, and don't represent your true sexual or emotional desires.
OCD often causes anxiety and frustration, potentially as well as shame, embarrassment, and self-hatred.
OCD comes in quite a few different themes:
Common themes
Harming others, violently and/or sexually
Contamination
Existential questions
False memory or real events (doubts about whether you did something wrong in the past)
"Just right" or perfectionism (excessively redoing or adjusting things until they are "just right")
Pedophilia (distressing thoughts that you are a pedophile and/or thoughts about children)
Relationship (uncertainty about relationships)
Moral/scrupulosity (excessive concern with moral purity)
Religious (similar to morality, but from a religious frame)
Orientation (questioning your sexual orientation or gender)
Common underlying mental themes
Intense disgust sensitivity and low tolerance for disgust
Uncertainty intolerance
Magical thinking
Common compulsions
Reassurance seeking
Checking
Avoidance
Rumination
Treatment
OCD is often treated via cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) to treat the cognitive aspect, or exposure and response prevention (ERP) to teach uncertainty tolerance.

no im not gatekeeping mental illnesses just because i said you can't diagnose yourself from a single thing.
no you don't have ocd just because you "are a clean freak".
no you don't have bpd/bipolar just because you have mood swings.
no your abuser isn't a narcissist or narcissistic just because they abused you/manipulated you and no im not invalidating your trauma by saying this.
no just because you don't like people you don't have aspd. what?
no just because you thought someone called your name while you were listening to music doesn't mean you have schizophrenia/paranoia.
no just because you're "quirky😜" doesn't mean you have adhd.
no just because you like something very much doesn't mean you have a hyperfixation/autism.
no just because people have low/no empathy doesn't mean that they are evil.
no pwNPD don't relish in manipulating and abusing the innocent.
no just because you cut your hair at like 4 am doesn't mean you have intrusive thoughts, that's called an impulsive thought.
and NO just because someone has intrusive thoughts doesn't mean they want to act on them. they're called intrusive for a fucking reason.
fuck you.
i've never made aac before but i was struggling to find "i have [ disorder ]" emotes, so i made my own… i may also make others like these.
no, you don’t have ocd because the chairs aren’t pushed in. unless you get extremely distressing and repulsive intrusive thoughts that interfere with your life that you believe will come to fruition unless you push those chairs in, you do not have ocd. and what you typically describe as ‘ocd’ really falls more under ocpd if not just being the slightest bit irked when things are marginally out of place.
