Stupid things my OCD made me / makes me do:
cw: I will be discussing some of my intrusive thoughts, if you believe this could harm you, please do not read. I won’t go into too too much detail but still, stay safe.
1 . Gave me ARFID. My arfid is fueled by my OCD and I constantly panic thinking my food is contaminated or will make me sick.
2. For most of my life I had to sleep with the covers over my head. I could not and would not sleep unless the covers were tucked under my head. I did this every night until late high school no matter how hot my room would get in the summer. I still do this but it’s not every night now.
3. I hyperfixate on horror media and true crime. Even when it gives me thoughts and makes me paranoid, I still am so interested in it.
4. “It’s locked, it’s locked, it’s locked”
5. I wash my body three times in the shower. Three different soaps too. A bar soap, sensitive skin body wash, scented body wash. Every single day.
6. I used to think people watched me from vents. Every day I would look into each air vent in my house to make sure there were no cameras
7. I always think I smell. I have such a strict and exact hygiene routine and yet two hours after I think I smell and I’m a gross disgusting person.
8. When I was a kid I watched a play through of the game “Corpse Party”. Anytime I ripped a piece of paper I had to keep it. I had a gallon sized bag full of ripped paper. I thought if I didn’t keep it I’d be sent to Heavenly Host and I’d die.
9. I can’t play animal crossing on my tv anymore. I can play it on my switch or DS (took months to be able to again though) but not my tv. My appendix became inflamed and almost burst right after I played animal crossing new horizons on my apartments tv. I think if I do it, my appendix will burst. I don’t even have an appendix anymore.
10. I check my skin constantly thinking I’ll find a mole or something and think I have skin cancer.
11. I think mold hides everywhere. I’m allergic to mold and I think I can smell mold. I probably can’t but my brain is convinced I can.
12. I used to work at a public library in the kids department. For some reason I was convinced a sex offender would come into the library and so I spent days trying to remember every registered sex offender in the area.
13. Can you tell I like the number 3? It’s odd numbers but 5 and 3 are the ones I use the most. Volume has to be on a multiple of 5 but everything else I do in threes. I wash dishes three times.
Some of these things might not be OCD but I’m not officially diagnosed with anything else so until I’m proven wrong, it’s OCD or just me being weird. I also probably have more but I can’t think of any right now.
