I have too many prompts, so I’ve decided that I going to write out my brief ideas and then when I have a moment I’m going to develop them fully! Here’s an excerpt from a one-shot I want to do, I just don’t know who yet of a cute proposal idea. Ngl this is lowkey how I want to be proposed to *dramatic sigh of longing* despite being single for agessss...anywho let me know thoughts and if you see a specific #otp
“This is how you’re going to do it?” the judgement in the barista’s voice is not lost on them as they quickly scribble down something onto the receipt.
Setting down the reusable coffee, the paper crinkles taped halfheartedly against it. Glancing up from her book she shoots them a smile in thanks before her attention is split once more between the book and her screen. Sitting down across from her, they pull out their own work, well aware, that the baristas are staring.
“Did you spill something because they won’t stop glancing our way,” she mentions offhandedly, fingers tracing words across the page, but head tilted away from the coffee.
“Nah, they’re just insufferable nosey,” they reply, taking a long sip from their own drink.
It is quiet as they work only the melodies of the shop’s radio playing in the background. Sunlight streams in from the window basking the furniture in warm tones and highlighting the loose curls against the band t-shirt she sports. Her legs have curled underneath her, book open on the table but abandoned as she types away on her laptop. It is in these moments of peace and mundaneness that cements how content they both are in their relationship, how much companionship, love, and trust they share between them. Minutes that bleed into an hour pass with shared glances and small smiles, but no real conversations past murmured questions about appropriate references and punctuation. Their friends who work the counter lose interest quickly and the obvious stares turn into occasional stares.
Cracking her back, she turns and lifts the reusable cup to her lips, setting it down she pouts realizing that it is almost empty. Looking over she catches their eyes and quirks a brow, but the paper faces them and all at once dread fills the pit of their stomach.
Could she have missed it all this time?
“Hey,” she mentions, smirk tugging at her ruby lips. “Si, obvio.”
It takes a moment for their brain to catch up lagging behind with the switch of language, but the grin that splits their face causes her to chuckle.
“Forreal?” they whisper, voice quieting in awe because it is not like they doubted that she would say, but a small part of them did.
“Mi amor,” she states, eyes fully on their partner and hands gently removing the paper and sliding it towards them. “Of course I will, as if you had anything to worry about.”
“I love you,” they answer, gaze falling onto the crinkled paper before flickering back to hers. “So fucking much, babe.”
“Y yo a ti,” she echoes, nails tapping against the table. “So do I get to see a ring or is this all talk?”
Laughing, their hand slips into the side pocket of their backpack. It is a small navy box and inside is a rose-gold vine band with a princess-cut surrounded by two series of smaller gems. It is not much, but the simplicity of it complements the over exuberance of their girlfriend. A small gasp caught in the back of her throat causes both sets of eyes to meet. Clearing their throat, shakily they slip the band onto the offered digit—a perfect fit. Setting the box down next to crinkled paper the words in scrawled script reflect the one question that they spent weeks agonizing over how to pose.
I even came up with a mood board lol!
