Klaus Mikaelson & Aurora De Martel The Originals [2013 - 2018] Requested by @phasans
one thing about the mikaelsons is that they donât play about their love interests like yes family above all but theyâre still completely obsessive and insane about the people theyâre in love with and i think itâs beautiful <3
I couldnât feel anything with Aurora, and certainly not Klaus & Aurora, at least in the modern day.
It felt like they couldnât decide quite what her story was - they hinted here and there that she wasnât quite right before she was turned, but we didnât see any actual evidence of that. She just fell in love with Klaus and wanted to be with him.
Then she turns up centuries later all the way insane, and Klaus doesnât react to that at all, as if he knew she was or would be.
That doesnât quite make sense to me. I feel like they ought to have either leaned into the idea that she was mentally fragile (at the time being unable to understand with any better words for it) and thatâs why Klaus (and indeed Rebekah) is reluctant to turn her, or taken the road that Elijahâs fledgling attempt at compulsion broke her mind entirely.
If we take the former, it makes a lot of sense as to why they would hold off turning her. Theyâve been through it, they already have some understanding of how traits are amplified and, whilst the whole creating more vampires thing is still new to them, the suspicion that this could turn out badly for Aurora and themselves must be strong.
Itâs also, in my opinion, an interesting storyline if Aurora is so desperate to be with Klaus but also so fragile that the bit where Rebekah heals her is a ploy to get her blood so she can turn. Her suicide is a deliberate act - logical, in her mind, and a devastating parallel to Katherine centuries later who does much the same but as a way to escape Klaus.
Regards the latter, this also would have been a strong narrative to tell - putting a lot more into Elijah and the path he chose. Centuries of believing sheâs someone else only to find that she isnât - her real self lost and so far away now that she canât quite remember who it is that sheâs supposed to be - Aurora is broken. Caught between two personas and unclear which is the true self - but obsessed with Klaus nonetheless.
Thatâs interesting but also would have made for a far more interesting reunion with Klaus. It seems as though theyâve never met since Elijahâs compulsion, and that tracks because of course the last thing Aurora tells Klaus is that she could never love him - and we know heâs a stubborn bastard. So faced with the woman he loved so much that he was still painting her face on the walls five centuries later; and finding that sheâs entirely insane and, more to the point, because of what his brother did, just throws up all sorts of what ifs.
How does Klaus reconcile that? He knows why Elijah did it, and he knows the threat that Mikael is, but equally the woman he loved (loves?) is broken because of it. And he never wanted her turned anyway - he never wanted her to lose the bright flame of humanity that she was, and here she stands, the absolute worst outcome of something he desperately tried to prevent.

the thing about the thing is that any klaus ship makes more sense than kl*roline and those people have to act like that to compensate. and i do mean literally any klaus ship.
the originals edition? klaurora ate. would've done great things if not for elijah. klamille? ain't everyone's cup of tea but it still makes more sense for klaus to have an interest in her than that other blonde girl at the very LEAST from a psychology aspect and to get at marcel and kieran. klayley? even if the only thing they Ever did was hate fuck, it still would've been more in character. klaus and lucien, klaus and genevieve, all of them make at least some sense from a narrative point of view.
tvd? klaus and elena? would've been a dark and twisty ass romance, but would've been great to witness. klaus and bonnie? not only would it have been eagerly accepted, but it was WANTED by the actors too. klaus and katherine? c'mon. (if you come to me about 'he killed her family!!' i'm sorry but i do not care they would've been so fucking funny). klaus and stefan.
even in the fucking BOOKS, klaus and vivianne were so, so much better. it's just.
like i'm SORRY but no matter what other ship it is kl*roline falls flat. he liked her because why? he has a weird complex about his sister and he wanted to assert dominance over tyler. there was literally no other reason for that man to give a shit about her.
