Because in this AU, i'm saying Klaus slept with Hayley and Elijah around the same time, Hope and Elijah’s child are not the same. So Hayley is still Hope's mother, but Elijah also being pregnant causes a kink in the witches' plans.

One, because if Elijah’s child is born first, then only one child has to die, but if Hayley's child is born first, they both have to.

Two, it's harder to convince Klaus to care about Hope if Elijah is also pregnant with his kid.

Three, only Klaus knows who he slept with first, and he's not telling. But he is significantly more paranoid about both their protection, so as soon as the spell keeping Hayley trapped is broken, they leave, and the children are born far away from New Orleans in a private hospital where the entire staff has been tested for vervain and compelled.

Both the children are born the same night, with Elijah’s child being born via C-section at 7:21 p.m., and Hope is born at 11:56 p.m., shortly before midnight.

they meet the day of the reaping. hayley is reaped but she sees it as her chance for a better life and fights off the other volunteers to claim her spot. klaus is immediately endeared by her and when he volunteers he looks her up and down and he just knows that this will be a great partnership and he wants her on his side.

klayley already knew each other, fooled around in a fwb arrangement for a year or so which led to them being 17 year old coparents to hope. same story as #1 but they leave hope with klaus's academy best friend marcel gerard and make a vow in private to protect each other in the games to give hope the best chance of having a surviving parent and to keep hope a secret from the capitol

klaus and hayley win separate games and meet as Victors, they have a one nighter which leads to hope's conception. hope becomes famous/high profile as the daughter of two of the best, most infamous district 2 victors and the daughter of a mikaelson, and is raised to volunteer for the games even though klaus and hayley don't want her anywhere near the arena.
