Trying to get started back with exercises again. Found a HIIT exercise on youtube and just fuck. I'll be feeling that all week.
I think it's important to do much easier and less intense versions of every exercise in there. I kind of have to. The guy is built like a body builder, I have no chance of doing anything at the level he does.
Ideally I reach the point where I can do it 3 times a week. Need to get my heart pumping. It was fun! I just need to find a good simpler variation of everything so I can get through all 10 minutes properly. Some of it I just straight up couldn't do even at a simpler level yet.
The next thing to do is to actually eat better. Snack on healthier things and just eat more filling foods. The most important part is to keep it consistent. Time to go back to Greek yogurt with peanut butter in the mornings before work. Honestly pretty good if you haven't tried it.
It will be a while before I properly go to a gym and build muscles so cardio I can do fast is important right now. I do hate a lot about my body and I need to finally start doing something about it instead of wishing I was actually fit.
June health and fitness recap:
Run 19 days, total 66.5 miles
Walk 7 days, total 11.25 miles
Hiking (in Yosemite!) 3 days, 17.52 miles
Indoor cycling 0 days
1 Melissa Bender HIIT workout
Maintenance strength workout 10 days
100 split squats for Habit Hounds 0 days (we had split squats OR run/walk a mile as a check-in, thank god I had the option this month)
4 hours field work
Weight on June 1, 2026: 150.5, weight on July 1, 2026: 153.0
I also had 4 hours of dancing and 3 days of archery. I am proud of all the moving my body and enjoying my life. It was a good month.
Update on left knee and lower back pain from end of May, for my records:
Left knee is meh. I still feel it under my kneecap when I walk up and down my stairs and when I do leg lifts. But the running (so far) doesn't seem to be making it worse. Silver lining.
The lower back is a roller coaster. I thought it was finally better. But it hurt so badly a couple of times last week and this week, it's very concerning. Running seems to actually loosen it up (?!) and then I am fine. But whimpering nonstop and being in horrible pain just getting out of bed and getting dressed is not cool. I still can't quite pinpoint what sets it off, but I will do some experiments this month to try to narrow it down.
