Have you seen it yet?
Starfleet Academy!
A Deaf male actor that uses American Sign Language and a hard of hearing female captain, Holly Hunter (The Piano) that became deaf in one ear as a child from the mumps.
Oh my gosh! More actors with hearing issues in major movies or series shows.
I'm so excited to watch this series on Paramount!
Hopefully it continues a long while.
Deafies, Hard of Hearies and Trekkies unite!
It's not impairment, it's differently abled!
Diffabilities can!

Today's "coffee chat" topic:
Hearing aid bling 😊
I believe I mentioned such pretty bling a while ago...
How I didn't have any pretty hearing aid colors or bling charms for it, as a child, a teen, a young adult. 🥺
I was picked on at school, for wearing a bi-cross hearing aid set and then just one behind the ear, and then one all in the ear, as I grew up, trying to hide the diffability. It wasn't even called a special or unique diffability back then. You were considered weird or oddball or stupid.
"Hearing aids are for ooolldd people!"
So I kept it hidden as best I could but I still got called different names and I was always chosen last on school teams when it was gym day. It felt personal back then, but it may have been because they didn't want my hearing aid to break.
As per the name calling? It's known today that children and some adults always make fun of things they don't understand, or don't want to deal with. It's a part of life and we, with any kind of hearing loss and or vision issues, just need to go with the old quote, "turn a deaf ear and blind eye" to all the rude comments. Seeking revenge is a waste of time. Karma eventually gets them in the end. I've seen it.
Stay strong, You be YOU.
Enjoy your hearing bling!
🤟☺️👍
Another epic snow art creation 👍👍
Where there's a will, there's a way.
It's diffability not disability
Have a heart
Be kind

Help?
Hey, so not sure why I'm doing this but I kinda need to get it out somehow. We have this teacher at our school who is kind of well known for talking shit about students. For example, he takes the piss out of his ASDAN (foundation) classes for not knowing things. This guy was my head of house for just over a year until I went into Sixth Form. I kinda liked him I guess, but didn't really know him all that well. I did go to see him about if I was eligible for young carers but he never got back to me, apart from promises that he was "looking into it". Now, in lower school my attendance was awful, I admit that. It was through a mixture of actually being quite ill, being prone to injury and my anxiety (which can get extreme) which meant I was off a lot. It did improve in the last year, however and this year has been the best since primary school. Now, I go to Sixth Form at the same school I went to then, I'm in my first year of it. Today, one of my friends (who is taught by this teacher) approached me and explained that he had said "Lauren's in Sixth Form!? How did she get in when she was never in school?" And took began asking why and taking the piss out of this and the fact that I don't have a right shoulder blade (I'll do a post on that later if asked). Now, I'm feeling pretty shitty about it. Like, this dude is a teacher right? He's going around mocking something that classifies as a diffability (yes I say diff not dis, I'll make a post about that too if you want). So yeah, needed to get that out. It's not right, ya know? And I can't really confront him about it because I heard it though a friend which doesn't make it valid. Maybe if the rest of her class were to say something to me? I dunno... anyway, rant over.
