Happy Birthday Millicent Simmonds!
“A Quiet Place” review
Last night I finally got to see “A Quiet Place”. I have known about the movie for years because the disability and deaf communities praised it for having the deaf character Regan played by a deaf actress. The movie is excellent! It never lets up on the suspense and the ending is more realistic for the “world ending” type of plot line. The use of ASL as a survival tool is a great concept. It took me awhile to realize the aliens running around had no sight, only hearing. The aliens being only hearing and the deaf character’s implant being a main way of defeating the creatures is interesting thematically. The deaf actress who played Regan was top notch in her performance. Emily Blunt is also very good.Â
This is amazing news!!!

Interview with Deaf actor in BLACK SUMMER
This is an interview with Mustafa Alabssi, a deaf actor who got a role in Black Summer, our beloved Z Nation spinoff. It’s not that much about Black Summer and more about his experience as a inexperienced deaf actor on set. I think it’s neat and I hope his character survives.

Podcast Casting Call: Seeking #DeafTalent
Seeking d//HoH, Masculine person to voice 24 year old Deaf Male in Fiction Audio Drama, “Hey It’s Me”!Â
“Hey It’s Me” is an audio drama currently being written by myself, Lindsey O’Connell, and my friend, Linda Ryan. The show revolves around Tara, a flaming homosexual, and her fiancee Ellie after explosive revelations tear their lives apart and change Tara’s fate forever. Let’s just say things get a bit... lit. “Hey It’s Me” aims to be an exciting addition to the fiction podcasting genre, and hopes to highlight marginalized voices and experiences. We want to prove that we can have a fun, entertaining story that is just as diverse as our lives are! And where no queers die!! We are currently casting Nico, a mysterious young Deaf man who is approximately 24 years old. His role as either villain or ally is something Tara and Ellie must uncover for themselves as they cross the country searching for Nico--and the answers he may hold. Nico is one of the main characters of the show, tertiary to Tara and Ellie. Nico will be shown using various methods of communication throughout the series depending on the situation, including ASL, texting apps, and Video Relay; however, due to the medium of podcasting, we are searching for a Deaf actor who is comfortable using their spoken voice. We are open to conversations about how much/little dialogue he should have, or any other considerations we may have overlooked.Â
