I finished Great Expectations by Charles Dickens! ✨ . My sister @gooddayprinting and I decided to buddy read classics, and Great Expectations was our first pick! It’s the first Charles Dickens book I read, and I’m not sure how I feel about it. I liked the first half, but after that it started to drag a little I thought 😅 . [SPOILERS] because I just have to ask anyone who’s read it as well - is no one else upset Pip never tells Estella about her parents? I was so upset when they meet at the end, because I was sure it was going to be resolved then, and it wasn’t! It feels like that part of the story was just left unfinished? 🤔 . I started putting tabs in my copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, because why not? Yellow is for character moments that establish a particular characteristic about the character or are a moment of character development. Blue is for moments that happen in the book but not the film. Pink is for moments that were in the film. Green is for moments that are funny and made grin readily or laugh. I'm almost done. It will be nice to be able to go back to the funny moments in the book now that I have tabbed them. Can't wait to move on to The Chamber of Secrets. Welcome to the last discussion with @jkimexploring and myself in March, we are talking about chapters XCVII-CX (97-110) today! I am so excited to and proud of myself for reading this far and you should be too! 1.What did you think about Eugénie and Louise’s departure? . . 2.What are your thoughts on Madame de Villefort and the outcome of Valentine’s ? . . 3.What are your thoughts on Monte's view towards Albert and Marseilles? . . . . 1.It is really showing of the time that they needed to escape far away from home and one needed to pretend to be a male for them to have any freedom and live the life they want to live. I will say the catalyst for their departure was kinda hard to watch, but I am glad it happened so she did not get married to a "fake". Her father truly is a selfish man, just making his daughter marry to save his own butt because is bad with money. . . 2.Step mom is a total jerk. I feel so awful for Valentine because she trusted Monte Cristo so much and thought if they listened to him nothing would happen to her. . . 3.I think it is interesting that Monte is actually starting to care what happens to people who are collateral damage. I just kept thinking back to his reaction to the hanging from earlier in the book and how bent on revenge clouded his judgement of others. Now, he seems to have woken up a little bit in a way. He is trying to protect those he felt he has wrong while trying to get his revenge.
