ARC Review: The Haven, The Hallow, & The Highborn by Jessa Grey
4 Stars!!!
I received a complimentary copy of the book for review. Thoughts and opinions are my own.
What an intro to this series!
This is a novella, so it's a little bit shorter. And that can make it difficult to show certain aspects, but honestly, I think Jessa Grey did a great job of giving hints of this world, but also building the tension between Eedy and Caelum as well as the tension in the world in general as they try to figure out what's going on with the magic.
Eedy was pretty great. I did get a little frustrated that she jumped to conclusions about anyone and everyone, especially Caelum. At the same time, once she spent more time with Caelum and they got to spending time together as they traveled to Velarune. It was interesting as she realized that her feelings for her father had maybe been a little colored by the fact that he was her father and she didn't want to see anything wrong. I am curious exactly what he saw in the pool, although based on the end, I can guess at least part of it.
Caelum was kind of a hilarious little shit. He admitted that he knew he got under Eedy's skin and he liked it. I liked the fact that he called her Tempest from the beginning because he saw her storm and he still fell for her. The revelations on his connection to magic were a little sad but also helped shape him. I did wish he'd pushed the council just a little bit harder, but at the same time, between the fact that this was a novella and that Eedy was more important to him, I get it.
There were a couple of issues as far as editing/grammar; some words that were missing from sentences, a couple times where the word was technically correct but the tense was wrong, etc. Overall not too bad but at the same time, slightly distracting when it suddenly pops up.
The end pulls into more of a love story than a straight Romance, but it leaves possibilities.
This book releases April 15, 2025. And the first book in the main series releases October 20, 2025.Β
Iβll get there.
Eventually.

This tbr will probably be extended until July if I can't read them all, I'm technically determined to read this list selection π
Since I'm in my vacation mode starting this month, I'm gonna be a little ambitious with my reading goal.
I thought of this tbr really long and picked the ones I wanted to read the most. There's quite a number of arcs which is going to be a priority, of course, and a bunch of non arcs. There's also some queer books that I really want to read π€π½
With that being said, I also plan on doing a reread while I'm at it π
Does anyone else have #tbrshelf like this?
It's not one, but four shelves!
Just hit 400 adds on Goodreads!
This makes me so happy that there are this many incredibly intelligent people with such discerning taste who are excited about my book.
