Someday, BSD fans will stop complaining about the lack of black-and-white characters and understand that the whole point of the work is its multi-genre nature, moral ambiguity, and narrative that doesn't chew over every detail but rather demands thought and analysis. This is precisely what deep engagement with art is all about. But many still expect a simple story with a linear plot and clear heroes and villains, and are then surprised when they don't get it.

dazai wondering what could possibly be so beautiful about the light, but wanting to trust odasaku’s words to the fullest—and then he joins the ada, and all of a sudden there’s—
kunikida’s notebook open with the words Check On Dazai underlined neatly, twice. ranpo understanding what he means with little to no words necessary. yosano inviting him out to drink to keep his mind off things. atsushi waiting for him every day, never tiring even when dazai is hours late. kyouka sitting beside him, understanding things he knows in ways the others couldn’t. kenji offering fruits and a bright smile on any day. naomi listening intently, insisting he teaches her more. fukuzawa taking him in and keeping him here, regardless of what dazai does.
and dazai wonders if this was the type of beautiful odasaku meant, because sometimes he really does think it’s the loveliest thing in the world.

I just know the entire ADA is gonna get massive PTSD from everything that's happened to them till now (nd in future). They start having sleepovers together to take care of their anxieties and in the end Fukuzawa's like "fuck it" and buys a house so all of them can live together. I AM getting separation anxiety for these guys!
Yosano: Dazai snores
Dazai: I do not! That's defamation
Atsushi: you definitely do snore, I heard it
Dazai: that was Kunikida-kun
Kunikida: everyone knows I won't snore
Ranpo: who was the one sleep walking? Yosano?
Yosano: I was having lucid dreams!! Leave me alone---
Ranpo: I heard Atsushi tip-toe to the kitchen too
Atsushi: I was...peckish?
Junichiro: who taught you that word?
Atsushi: Poe-kun
Ranpo: Ed is talking to other people!??
Yosano: jealous much? Lol
Junichiro: I saw a shadow figure on the window....when I was going to the bathroom
Atsushi: oh, that's Akutagawa, doing his parole. He takes his knight job seriously at night.
Ada: (awkward silence)
Kunikida: should we be concerned or relieved?
Ranpo: if he is your bodyguard/stalker, we definitely are safe here, that guy kills at sight
Atsushi: he doesn't do that anymore
Dazai: at least now we know, if Atsushi-kun gets "kidnapped", it's just his boyfriend
*MEANWHILE*
Fukuzawa: (watching Naomi, Kenji, Haruno and Kyouka feed their new pet cats)
Fukuzawa:....I feel so peaceful
*gets a call*
Fukuzawa: no, Mori, you can't move in here----don't contact me again.

summary: It's your second day at ADA and Dazai wants to meet you
The second day at the Agency starts with a deceptive calm until the office doors swing open with a theatrical flourish.
You're leaning against the desk, your hair cascading over your shoulders as you look over some files, when a tall man draped in a sand-colored coat practically glides toward you.
He is undeniably handsome, with soft brown curls and eyes that sparkle with a mix of mischief and melancholy, but the sheer intensity of his focus on you is enough to make you pause.
He stops exactly three inches from your personal space, taking your hand with the delicacy of a Victorian suitor. He stares into your eyes as if he’s discovered a hidden treasure.
"Oh, heavens," he breathes, his voice smooth and dramatic. "I stepped away for one afternoon, and I return to find a goddess has descended upon our humble office. Your eyes are like two shining diamonds, drowned in a deep, calm ocean! Tell me, oh beautiful stranger, would you do me the ultimate honor of committing a graceful double suicide with me?!"
Your breath hitches from pure, unadulterated confusion. You stare at him, your lips parted, your brain trying to process the sheer absurdity of the request. "I'm sorry... what?"
Before you can even recoil, a stray pen flies through the air, narrowly missing the man’s head. Kunikida storms over, his face a vibrant shade of crimson, veins practically popping out of his neck.
"DAZAI! YOU PIECE OF SHIT!" Kunikida bellows, his notebook shaking in his hand. "She's been here for twenty-four hours! Can you go five minutes without harassing the new people with your twisted, suicidal delusions?! Stop saying that kind of stuff! It’s unprofessional, it’s macabre, and it’s a direct violation of my schedule!"
"But Kunikida-kun," Dazai whines, finally letting go of your hand to pout like a scolded child. "Look at her! Such a beautiful angel! It would be a waste of such aesthetic perfection to die alone. She’s the missing piece to my poetic ending!"
"The only thing ending is your career if you don't get to work!" Kunikida snarls. He turns to you, adjusting his glasses with a huff. "Ignore him, Y/N. This is Dazai. He’s a lazy, bandage-wasting machine who occasionally interrupts us solving cases when he isn't trying to drown himself in a shallow puddle."
Dazai lets out a sharp 'Oof!' as Kunikida delivers a swift, practiced chop to the back of his head. He stumbles, rubbing his skull with a cheeky grin that suggests he actually enjoyed the chaos.
He turns back to you, leaning his elbow on a nearby filing cabinet, looking you up and down with a playful glint.
"So, Y/N-chan," Dazai says, smiling widely at you. "Since we’ve established that I am a very busy and important man who just suffered a traumatic head injury from Kunikida-kun, surely you wouldn't mind helping me out? I have a mountain of reports that need filing, and your hands look much more suited for paperwork than mine. Why don't you do my work for me?"
You cross your arms over your chest, your figure radiating an unimpressed energy. You meet his gaze and give him a flat, deadpan look.
"No," you say, your voice clipping the air.
Dazai’s eyes widen, his jaw dropping dramatically. He leans in closer, trying to invade your space again, desperate to get a reaction out of you. "No?? But Kunikida-kun caused me a serious injury!"
"SHUT UP DAZAI!!", you hear an angry voice behind your back.
"Still no," you repeat, turning your back on Dazai to return to your own desk, leaving him in the middle of the office.
Dazai stands frozen for a moment, but then a huge, delighted grin starts spreading across his face. He’s found a new challenge. You can practically feel his eyes on the back of your head, plotting exactly how many buttons he has to push to finally get a real reaction out of you.
