Did you know...?
In Basque, "to help" is said lagundu, a verb that comes from noun lagun (friend) because helping is what a friend does 🥰.

I decided to switch it up a bit with my Euskara lessons so I found this beautiful poem by momentuaak on Instagram which was already translated to Spanish in the original caption
Batzuetan ez dakit nora joan.
Batzuetan galduta sentitzen naiz.
Batzuetan errutinak itotzen egiten nau eta ihes egin behar dut.
Batzuetan bakarrik zure begi berdeak berriro ikustea behar dut, bertan bakea sentitzen dudalako.
Nahiz eta batzuetan begi horietatik ihes egin nahi dudan.
Beraz, nora joan behar naiz?
Microsoft Translator Adds New Languages and States Commitment to Preserving Languages
Recently, Microsoft Translator added Galician and Basque not long after announcing its addition of Somali and Zulu.
As many languages around the globe are dying, Translator is helping to preserve at-risk languages. We have worked with language communities across the world to collect and translate materials, and then create language systems. Through this we can ensure that these languages are recorded and preserved for generations to come.
Some of the at-risk languages that we have worked to preserve include Inuktitut, Māori, and Yucatec Maya. If your language community is interested in partnering with Microsoft to add your language to Translator and the products that are using it, and you have access to digital documents in your language and another commonly spoken language, please contact us using this form.
Today we’re adding two new languages, Basque and Galician, to the list of languages supported by Translator, a Microsoft Azure Cognitive Ser
In Basque we don’t say “In love” , we say “maiteminduta” which roughly translates to “hurt by love”.
In Basque we don’t say “cancer”, we say “minbizia” which roughly translates to “intense pain” and I think it’s quite accurate in every sense.
In Basque we don’t say “give birth”, we say “erditu” which translates to “divide by two” and I think it’s beautiful.
In Basque we don’t say “moon” we say “Ilargi” which translates to “the light of the dead”.
In Basque we don’t say “desert”, we say “basamortu”, which roughly translates to “dead forest”.
In Basque we don’t say “free”, we say “musutruk” which translates to “in exchange of a kiss”. Example: Musutruk emango dizut. Translation: I’ll give it to you for free (I’ll give it to you in exchange of a kiss).
Explanation: The Basque language is an ancestral language spoken in the north of Spain and in the south of France. It’s the oldest language of Europe.
