a good analogy for anyone who thinks we have too many words these days in the LGBTQ+ community:
green is a nice color isnāt it? letās say green is anything regarding sexuality and blue is anything regarding gender.
Hello! Iām a cis female, demiromantic, polyamorous, asexual, and experience qp attraction. Some of my friends are allosexual, bisexual, aroace, homosexual, and agender.
thatās confusing though! cry so many of our parents and guardians in agony. why canāt you just say dating! why canāt it just be a you guys thing! why are there so many words!
I could go into detail that it gives us ways to interact with each other, quickly explain our orientations, and identify personal experiences and needs without confusing amounts of overlap, but what Iām going to say here is:
Our houses are painted differently.
If you walk into someoneās house and love the nice shade of green itās painted, you might ask them what shade. they tell you pine. the next time you go to the store you pick up some nice pine green paint for your living room.
someoneās bedroom is navy blue, and youāre not really a fan of that yourself even if it looks okay, but your other friendās bedroom is cornflower blue, and you love that! you ask for the shade and go to the store they got it from and get some for your foyer.
you donāt go to the store and ask for just green or blue. there are way too many shades for that to ever work without being confusing and ending up with shades you donāt like for your house.Ā
You mayĀ think your white house is theĀ ānormalā color, and therefore doesnāt need a name, but itās not! Itās a specific shade of white, and other people with white paint still have variations, and white paint is still drastically different than green or blue paint, but none of them are better than the others, itās just personal preference. you wouldnāt just break into someoneās house and repaint it to what you think the normal kind of paint is, holy shit, you can get jail time for that. thatās fucked up.
you learned your color wheels in elementary school. you learned crayon names in kindergarten. get over it and start learning
