Without naming your job, tell me something you say over and over again at work.
"I can note your interest in that feature for future development."
"As far as I know, you are still the next one on the list. I will update you again as soon as I hear anything from the team."

WHO'S THAT POKEMON? As part of a celebration, a couple friends and I played a few rounds of "draw a Pokemon from description", and I have come to the conclusion that my friends and I are better artists/describers than we have any right to be.
And the one we had the hardest time with, but truly can you blame us?

There’s a quality that certain books/movies/TV shows have that leads me to say, “Yeah, I can see people making fanfiction of that.” It’s something to do, I think, with how tight the story is, how much feels open-ended or like it could be elaborated on.
Something like Breaking Bad, for example, has low squiggability (that’s what I’m calling this quality). It’s tightly written, the characters are consistent, there’s little left to interpolate or extrapolate. Obviously, people DO write fanfic of Breaking Bad, but it still has a low squiggability score. Whereas something like Supernatural has a high squiggability score. Fantasy and science fiction often have high squiggability scores. This suggests squiggability could also be related to worldbuilding and potential for people to borrow a premise or setting.
And sometimes you’ll read or watch something and you’ll say, “Ah, low squiggability,” and then you’ll open tumblr and find out that everyone else seem to think its squiggability was very high indeed.
who does have each others' numbers? i'm assuming shane and martin, roz and price, villa and kolawski, (same team) and then hunter/archer who are all stars and leadership guys
Other guys that have played on the same team (it's a lot because that's usually how people get caught):
Roz and Gordy, Vrubel and Noyer, Danilov and Archer, Cohen and Berggren, McGee and Spyrou, Price and Noyer, Vrubel and Williams, Noyer and Hunter.
Someone to Hunter: Hey, you play tennis with Casey, right?
Hunter: Yeeeeeeees >__> (But also, literally yes.)
Someone: Cool, could I grab his number? I need to get in touch for [reason].
Hunter: *furiously messaging Casey in the app for his number because it would be wild to say "no, I don't have my tennis buddy's number, we communicate entirely by psychic messages"*

You know Yuna is going to want to talk about the Pope situation so much and Shane will just be there trying to drown himself in a ginger ale to avoid looking at his mother talking about irresponsibility and the consequences of your choices.
Shane: Mom, do we have to talk about this? I mean the guy hasn't even been convicted.
Yuna: Alright, fine. Have you heard any updates about the San Francisco player that got hurt?
[HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND...]
Yuna: God, it's like Pope doesn't even think about how he's a role model for thousands of kids who look up to him and expect the best from him.
Shane: i am in hell.
(7/30/26) The Red Cross just declared the second US blood crisis in its history.
Summer sees both a drop off in donations and, at least for our trauma center, a spike in traumas. Trauma centers across the US are in danger of running out of blood for our trauma patients TODAY, which is very scary but, unlike much of the other scary national news coming across our screens these days, is something you can help fix immediately and directly.
We need ASAP donations of blood, for people to spread the word, and for manager types to help facilitate others' donations. All blood types are needed, but universal donor blood (type O) is especially dire.
Meanwhile this was what various medical professionals in that reddit thread had to say about it.
They do not, in fact, love it.
The proof that chiropractic is an utterly failed medical profession is not that adjustments can cause harm, but that the profession has responded by ignoring and denying the harm, rather than studying it.
All medical treatments (other than complete placebos) have some risk of harm, but for real treatments given by real professionals, the harms are tracked, measured and warned about. If the harms are too severe, the treatment is no longer used.
One of my colleagues was a chiropractor. After a while he began to suspect that a lot of his patients actually just had muscle tears, not spinal issues. He bought an ultrasound machine, learned how to use it and how to read ultrasound, and found that to be the case. Between that and the constant pressure from management to get customers (because lbr, they're not patients, they're customers), he got sick and tired of it and bailed to become a sonographer full time.
And before people pipe up with "but my chiro is good, they have me do exercises and so on!" that's just regular ass physiotherapy. See a physiotherapist. A lot of people who sing the praises of chiros because they saved them from chronic pain would have gotten the same benefits from seeing an actual licensed physio, who can prescribe the same or even better exercises because they have an actual fucking education.
The amount of fucking charts I've seen where a patient went to a chiropractor and now needs a surgery is fucking insane. All I do is medical charts, day in and day out doing medical code. I've gone over hundreds of patients whole year of appointments. Unless the chiropractor is also a physical therapist, that patient is going to get worse and need surgery with very few exceptions. It doesn't matter when they mention seeing a chiropractor, by the end of the year they need surgery for issues that started after *shock and awe* a chiropractor appointment! I've seen patients needing multiple surgeries to be functional after chiropractors. I've seen patients lose their ability to walk because of chiropractors. And all the way up till they need surgery, through the issues piling up and needing more pain meds, the patients insist it's helping because the want so badly for it to be helping. I wish it did
When I found out the creator of chiropractic techniques claimed he learned it all from a ghost, I was shocked that no one has realized it was a malevolent ghost that had thought of it as a way to torment the living.
Chiming in from the massage therapist side, who are at the OTHER end from medical-
We hate them too.
At my school there was a HARD line between what we did and medical treatments. Massage makes pain lessen but it doesn’t FIX things, and there were strong lines to make sure we didn’t get that idea in our head (like we couldn’t even popped a friends back because it opened us up to medical malpractice.)
And then these chucklefucks are like “Lemme cure your allergies by breaking your neck.”

thank you yes, I did need this today

I wonder if part of the reason that the Game Changer's series is so broadly popular is that it positions homophobia to function as the same mechanism as classism in regency romances. That is, it's an unjust societal force that has elevated people in certain categories as better than others, but crucially, it is a force of societal disapproval, not of danger. The concern of classism that it will result in ostracism from 'polite society' has substituted in a professional hockey league. The dynastic concerns of scandal have been mapped to Russian laws against homosexuality causing Ilya to never be able to go home again. Losing one's inheritance becomes risking the single, lucrative job they are trained for. Crucially, class differences don't carry a risk of sudden, extreme violence so the concern about other players targeting them in a full contact sport is omitted.
It doesn't even cross Kip's mind that hate crimes exist when he asks Scott what's the worse that could happen, because that's not a consequence possible in regency romance. A demand to choose a partner over hockey polite society happens all the time in regency romances. The privileged partner not understanding the dark side of hockey classism, check. A partner caving to the societal expectation of his station and staying the closet is framed as an act of selfish cowardice that he needs to overcome to be worthy of love.
And usually in regency romances, like Pride & Prejudice, the solution to this barrier is for the couple to just choose each other and declare their love and it all works out (due to the man's extreme privilege shielding his wife, which doesn't map to homophobia) or for the couple to happily leave the nasty gossip-mill of polite society (Montreal) to more comfortable country social circles (uber-supportive Ottawa). This could be why the Russian issue is waved away, because regency stories usually end with the couple either winning over dynastic acceptance or with them in a more powerful position than their disapproving relatives. Neither of which can be applied to this situation, so there is no roadmap for Reid to continue the issue.
This could explain why Reid feels that coming out publicly is imperative to a happy ending. If homophobia is positioned by the writer as the modern take on romance novel classism, then remaining in the closet--in any capacity--functions as an adherence to social hierarchy, which the regency genre demands their love interest grapple with and reject.
Well, I'm not a romance genre devotee, so I could be totally off base.
The economics of Rachel Reid's books is frankly so insane. Everyone is either working poverty wages or they're a millionaire.
Fabian is working at a drug store until he makes his big break. There is, presumably, no such thing as a moderately successful musician in this world or any mid-level careers for people with musical training. (He plays violin - you're telling me he can't get studio work? Or work weddings?) Kip sells smoothies and works catering jobs. Kyle is a bartender.
Harris, Thee social media manager of a pro sports team who travels with that team twice a year, claims he makes less per year than some of the players make in a day. The absolute maximum salary for an NHL player in 2020 was $16.3M, but I haven't seen anyone suggest Ilya would be making that much with Ottawa - that would be a terrible deal for the team, since that's 20% of their salary cap for the whole team. Certainly they don't have more than one player making that. Ilya is probably making 10, maybe 12M, which would put Harris's salary below $32k. In 2020. That's crazyinsane. That should be a good paying job!!
And then everyone else? Everyone else in this series is a millionaire. But!! The millionaires do not live or act like millionaires in any meaningful way. Ilya has a car collection, sure, but he has to sell it?? To move to Ottawa?? No he fucking doesn't, he just signed a $10M contract that probably had a signing bonus. Are you stoned? Are we all very stoned? Do we not have basic math skills.
Anyway, fascinated by this universe she's created in which the middle class simply does not exist. Something very bootstrapsy about it.
