It looks like it was a possible false alarm due to juveniles, but I picked one out for a 50/50 shot:

Waiting until I can properly sex before naming. Will also be in a separate tank from Lil Screamer until it grows out.

The one where it looks kind of red is a trick of the light from being under a clump of some very intense RRFs. Still completely colorless after settling down.

It's been over a week and she's filled out really well:

Dorsal fin is shorter than the males I've had and face is a different kind of snubbed shape. I'm pretty optimistic now but will wait until I start seeing some yellow eggs underneath before being sure.

I fucked up and Slipstream sadly passed away today. This was my first time breeding fish and it stupidly didn't occur to me how much stress spawning is for the fishmom.

On Saturday, I saw that she was egged up and presenting her breeding tube. So I introduced Lil Screamer and they immediately spawned. It was super neat watching her flash her black stripes like a cuttlefish.

I then moved Lil Streamer to another tank to avoid aggression from Screamer, but she still started fading. I didn't know the importance of conditioning or take into account that she was still probably recovering from being stressed and half-starved at the LFS. I definitely should have waited another few weeks. I feel awful, both because of failing her and wasting such a rare fish.

I haven't seen any fry, yet, but Screamer is in a separate tank now and first foods are ready. Here's hoping at least a few survive and I can do better next time.
