I really like the idea that Obyron can still have memories to burn after intense skirmishes for millions of years not just because he's intensely loyal and would give up everything for Zahndrekh and also because there's still fundamentally a part of him that can't be stripped away as easily,
but also because Zahndrekh quite literally keeps a lot of fundamental memories safe for him, even if it probably takes up a lot of storage space and processing power to back up someone else's memories inside your own engrams without them degrading over time. I think it would be a fun little irony to have Zahndrekh, who is so focused on the past, subconsciously (and sometimes consciously when he's fully lucid) ensuring his future with Obyron, and Obyron himself, stays stable.

Guess who just came up with the worst Necron list I think you could possibly have?
120 Necron Warriors. 6 units of 20. All lead by either a Plasmancer or Technomancer to boost their attacks or make them just a tiny bit harder to kill and take advantage of command protocols.
Two Canoptek Reanimators to make the warriors heal more each time their reanimation protocols activate. Because apparently oops all Reanimators “isn’t viable” or something.
One unit of 2 Lokhust Heavy Destroyers lead by a Lokhust Lord in some vain attempt to counter heavier armoured units.
3 Units of Canoptek Scarab Swarms because just buying the amount of warriors needed for this automatically gets you 12 units of scarabs and you need to do SOMETHING with them.
The only reason it doesn’t contain more warriors is because of the 2000 point limit and the fact that I seem to be limited to a total of 6 warrior units.

Just wanted to say that I’ve been reading The Silence and the Storm at a truly unhealthy pace and have been utterly amazed every single chapter. I’m a huge necrons enjoyer and it’s a delight to find a fic weaving all these characters together who each have their own motivations that keep winding into the greater plot. I don’t think I’ve ever felt such an intense combination of dread and anguish from a fic as I did when reading The Fall of Solemnace—Orikan could not have gotten to Solemnace faster and my mind was screaming from the beginning of the vision to the end of The Tomb. You write all the character povs with such care and personality, and it’s a true joy to read. Absolutely fantastic work!
oh wow, thank you! That means a lot <3 They're such a fun collection of. characters that I think are so underutilized. Each one could easily carry a story just with their own neuroses, angst, goals, etc and getting to toss all that into a blender and seeing what happened was great fun! I'm thrilled people are still enjoying it.
