Well put. (Source: Writing About Writing Facebook page)
as a lawyer whoās been practicing for six years now I can say with certainty that this 100% applies to lawyers
Me: My writing is so bad. :(
Meanwhile at Disney: Somehow, Palpatine has returned.
This comic makes me so stupid emotional. She might have never known.
saw this comment and i had to
reminder that 30 isnāt old, itās very normal to not accomplish everything in your 20s, and that it is never too late to learn that thing youāve always wanted to learn. youāre always growing. thatās a good thing.Ā
Who the hell accomplishes everything in their 20s? Who made that a thing?
I was 48 when I started my apprenticeship to become a tattoo artist. I was 50 when I married the love of my life.
Youāve got time.
I needed this right now. Iāve got time!!!
To anyone who needs to hear this, my aunt called my mom last year in tears and, as she talked about how things are going, she admitted that she didnāt know she could be so happy, and she didnāt know how good life could be.
She is 72. After a very rough go of things, she is now with someone who cherishes her (met him three years ago!), goes on bucket-list road trips multiple times a year, founded two nonprofits to help people who have been through similar struggles, and feels fulfilled.
30 isnāt too late. Neither is 40, nor 50, nor even 70.
Look, my family always talks to me as if being in my 30s means my life is done. My aunt said so to my face multiple times. āYouāre done and overā with pity in her voice and tears in her eyes. MULTIPLE TIMES. Her favorite topic when she talks to me. Thanks, aunt.
My parents think the same. And hell, within all that, I canāt help but to go there myself.
But fuck them. Itās dumb, harmful, and not true.
I started NerdyKeppie 3 months before I turned 40, Michele. Your family are fools.
My parents left their awful first marriages in their thirties and met a few years later. My mum was 42 when she had me. My dad didnāt start his business till his 40s. My mum basically restarted her career in her early thirties.
Iām about to turn 33 and so far my thirties are infinitely better than my twenties (because let me tell you, my twenties sucked and I did not have the ability to cope with it that I have now) and Iām hoping it only gets better from here.
So many of my friends agree that their twenties sucked and growing into their thirties was so much better.

idgaf in a peaceful way
do it scared do it stupid do it alone etc etc but donāt do it hungry. eat a snack first
also donāt do it dehydrated. go drink some water
Sleep on it, if you need to
Hey btw, here's a piece of life advice:
If you know what you'd have to do to solve a problem, but you just don't want to do it, your main problem isn't the problem itself. Your problem is figuring out how to get yourself to do the solution.
If your problem is not eating enough vegetables, the problem you should be solving is "how do I make vegetables stop being yucky". If your problem is not getting enough exercise, the problem you should be solving is "how do I make exercise stop sucking ass". You're not supposed to just be doing things that are awful and suck all the time forever, you're supposed to figure out how to make it stop being so awful all the time.
I used to hate wearing sunscreen because it's sticky and slimy and disgusting and it feels bad and it smells bad, so I neglected to wear it even if I needed to. Then I found one that isn't like that, and doesn't smell and feel gross. Problem solved.
There is no correct way to live that's just supposed to suck and feel bad all the time. You're allowed to figure out how to make it not suck so bad.
I liked this post, scrolled for like another minute before I went āSHIT FUCK SHITā and scrolled back to reblog it
I always reblog this one when I see it on my dash. When someone posts their own art, writing, or music here they are really hoping you will share it.
I know I told this story before but last year I was having complications with a surgery and I just broke down in a public place and I was trying to gather myself, sitting and leaning on a wall when this girl in cowboy boots approached me and sat down and she asked what was wrong and I told her it was medical issues and she said āI understand, I have to have my foot amputated next weekā and it shocked me out of crying and I was like āwow that sucks!ā And she said āyeah.ā And then she just touched my arm so tenderly and told me āI promise you that this problem will have its place, and everything is going to work out.ā And the way she said it just made me really believe her. She said. āWeāre just gonna have to cowgirl up.ā And then she stood up and walked away and Iād call that a genuine encounter with an angel but the truth is there is a lot of goodness right here on earth in humanity and itās shining and pure.
Okay but āthis problem will have its placeā is genuinely inspiring
THAT REALLY STRUCK ME because Iāve always hated the tired rhetoric ofĀ āthis happened for a reasonā and this feels like a more genuine, comforting take on that. NotĀ āit happened for a reason,ā butĀ āthis will find its spot in your life and your future that it fits into in a way that will eventually work out even though it sucks that it happened.ā Love that.
Weāre just gonna have to cowgirl up

whenever i see a baby in public i wish i were like a powerful faerie god mother character who could give the baby a gift likeĀ āyouāll never get a coldā orĀ āmath will always make sense to youā or something like beinā great with string instruments but I donāt have any powers that I know of but it doesnāt stop me from trying so every time I see a baby in public I tell the adult with itĀ āwhat a beautiful babyā and it makes them smile and then I pretend I can take the goodness of their smile and I look at the baby and I think very hardĀ āyou will have a good life, even if itās hard, you will end up happyā and Iām just hopinā the magic kicks in at some point

Now, only reblog if you got it wrong!
Even when people have Alzheimerās or dementia they donāt ever lose their humanity. My grandma had really bad Alzheimerās in the end and even though she didnāt know any of her family anymore she was so kind and gentle with my baby nephew. It means something, I think, that caring for others is so ingrained in our psyche that not even disease could make us lose thatļæ¼
One of the most profound moments of my life was when I was walking with one of the Alzheimer patients through the gardens at the assisted living home I worked at a few years ago. He was a scientist, he was from out west. He'd done foundational research on the aftermath of the Mount St. Helens eruption. He looked up at one of the pine trees and misidentified it, thinking it was a California pine tree (yeah, apparently there are east coast/west coast variants) and as we got closer, he sort of frowned and said, "No, that's <insert scientific name here>." And he looked at me and asked, "Wait, am I in the South?" And he looked so confused and scared and I nodded and said, "Yeah, you moved here a couple years ago." And his face got all serious and he didn't say anything else for a minute. I could see the panic and the dread and the embarrassment starting to rise.
So I asked him about the plants, about their scientific names, about what role they played in the ecosystem, what the shape of their leaves said about their evolution, what kind of bugs lived on them, whether or not small animals made nests and homes in them. And he just talked and talked, told me everything I wanted to know.
If he forgot something, he didn't get embarrassed because he was just thinking about some old plants, just some old plants, who can keep track of all those latin names anyway? He'd think of it later.
And it didn't teach me to "respect everyone no matter their mental ability," and it didn't make me realize that "all people deserve respect," because I was already there, I already believed that. But, as he started smiling, telling me all he knew, rolling his eyes when I didn't understand something, thinking carefully about how to explain in lay-terms, as the stress and fear that threatened to crush him evaporated as quickly as it appeared, I received an absolutely critical life lesson like a ten-ton epiphany:
We were made to help each other.
As cheesy as it sounds, the absolute true meaning of life, outside of religious beliefs, scientific theories, political movements, outside of all of it, the only thing that matters at all is whether or not you made a real, tangible difference for the better in someone's life. Big or small. Permanent or brief.
Make a difference, be the change you want to see in the world; it doesn't make you Gandhi, but it might help someone have a better day, and isn't that nice?
Actually life is beautiful because the sound I make while trying to breathe around hot food sounds like my dog trying to eat an apple. When I yawn my cat tries to put his face in my mouth like a little dentist man and when he yawns I put my finger in his obligate-carnivore trapzone and we both know he will not hurt me. When I do not fold my clothes, they do not hold it against me.
I am demonstrably sad, and lonely, and full of fear. But there are other people who will hold my hand, who will point out the hawk overhead, who will give you That Look in a public place. The other day at a coffee shop a child said "look! It's snowing!" so all of us strangers went to go look out the windows. It wasn't the first snow and it won't be the last but wasn't it lovely, like that?
How wonderful to live in a world where birds and frogs both say beep! How wonderful to have an ocean of beautiful sharks with their dinosaur teeth! How wonderful the moon and her changing face, how wonderful the bees and their dancing to communicate, how wonderful shrimp and their forbidden layers of vision! How wonderful, you, and what you will give the world! The way we love things enough to spend entire blogs devoted to them? How people will let me explain my Pokemon team to them? How we will both jump at the scare in the movie, how we laugh so loudly, how it feels to give someone your baking? How wonderful to be alive. I am sorry for forgetting.
This is the process of getting better. With wonderful people and wonderful strangers and wonderful friends: I am getting better, slowly. Thank you, whoever you are. In some way, you've been wonderful, and left a wonderful place in the world to ripple out to me. In some small way - isn't it beautiful - I promise, you've been helping.

being in my 20s is like I understand more of my mother and less than i ever have. My childhood friends are strangers to me and thereās no one i know better. i want to drink wine. i never stopped wanting to climb trees. i know more than Iāve ever known before. I donāt know anything at all. iām seven years old and sixteen and twenty nine and seventy. I canāt tell when i'm happy. I think the only thing that will make me happy is to be little again. i want to be really old. i go to the ocean and feel like nothing matters more than that. in my bedroom everything matters so much. I go to the grocery store every day. i know how to cook a lot of things but the only thing i know how to eat is fried eggs. I can take care of myself but i want to be taken care of. i want to go home and I don't know where that is. i think it may be somewhere inside of me but iām not sure
The whole self love thing is good and all but some people canāt fathom being loved. They canāt imagine there being anything good about them. So they canāt simply just stop doing unhealthy things, thereās a process.
Before self love you have to invoke self tolerance and self neutrality.
If you canāt say āI love my body!ā say āmy body gets me from place to place.ā
If you canāt say āIām beautiful,ā begin by shutting down the āIām uglyā thoughts and saying āIām a person.ā
If you canāt say āIām valuableā begun by shutting down the āIām worthlessā thoughts and say āall people deserve basic respect, and Iām a person.ā
If you canāt say āIām important,ā or āIām kindā say āI am the one who waters my plant every weekā or āI am the one who tips the kind barista down the streetā or āI am the one who makes sure my dog does not eat plasticā or āI am the one who leaves long comments on peopleās fan fictions.ā
Iāve genuinely never seen a way to bridge the gap, especially body-wise. Thereās loads about self-confidence and loving your body EVERYWHERE, but no one really explains how to get there. Itās great to have the former, but Iām glad this info is out there.
