One of my Dr who pet peeves is when people talk about classic who like oh haha they had a shoestring budget and all the effects were tinfoil and bubblewrap, that's how doctor who is SUPPOSED to be, it doesn't need a budget! And it's like ok but classic who was made by professionals who worked very hard and often had good special effects ):<
People dunk on the tinfoil cybermen but like cmon these are complicated specially made costumes that were designed several times over the course of the 60s and they are good! Look at these guys they're great!
the doctor who episode that's both about an endless hotel that was built to house an ancient god and the way the main character's arrogant nature harms the people around him being titled "The God Complex" is maybe the most jealous i've been of a title ever. i should have thought of that.
The Macra Redesigned!

Hello there! I just wanted to say, I found your amazing art and I love your OC Doctor Who cast. It's inspired me to revisit my old OC from so long ago. Thank you. Sincerely, thank you. Is there anywhere I can read up about them? (Also, do you ever possibly open up commissions at all...?)
thank you so much!! That's so sweet of you to say!!
I have been trying to write a story for these characters, yes :oD but I'm a little bit stuck at the moment. It's about how they met and the mysterious information-eating worm that's roaming at Elisa's school.
as of now though, the best place to see all their info in one place is on my Toyhou.se!
And right now I'm not really in a position to open commissions, but thank you for taking interest!

[ 🛸prev 🛸] The Doctor discovers a fursuit. Elisa is secretly a furry and has a couple of furry OCs, one of which she's made a fursuit head for. She would rather die than open up about her interests though so she'd rather keep everyone as far away as possible from her suit head.
Bonus:
[ 🛸prev 🛸] In many ways, Jim really is more the TARDIS's companion than anyone else's.
I absolutely love your Dr Who iteration! I love the designs, I love Elisa, I love Jim and his role. And I love what you’ve done with the master. It feels both fresh and in character! It’s all really intriguing too! (Bunch of questions ahead, you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to.) What are Elisa and Jims feelings about the Master? How did Elisa get caught up with the doctor? How does Elisa feel about Jim and vice versa? Does Elisa go home after each adventure and get picked up by the doctor later? Does Elisa keep any of her own stuff in the Tardis? Sorry, I know it’s a lot, but it’s so Fascinating!
Thank you so much for being interested in my silly lil fellas!! I've just been staring at this ask for so long, jaw agape and so flattered by all the questions!
Elisa feels rather neutral about the master. In fact, I'd say she's taken a bit of a liking to them! They're a pleasant fellow to be around, so she doesn't have any reason to feel doubtful about their intentions. Jim isn't too fond of them though. He isn't actively frightened of them or aggressive towards them, but if they reach down to pet Jim, they'll avoid touch as much as possible
The doctor showed up at her high school just after she regenerated, because a machine of hers caught detected an alien presence! Elisa, nearly became a meal for that presence, lol.
Jim and Elisa are good friends! Elisa is really fond of Jim and always tries to convince the Doctor he's allowed to come with or that he's just an innocent lil guy (he's not, but she tries anyways). Jim appreciates how calm Elisa can be once she sits down and enjoys napping next to her or on top of her.
Elisa does go home after each adventure, yes! The Doctor finds it to be rather important that she keeps up with her studies and her life on earth.
Elisa essentially claimed the little lounge/sofa in the TARDIS as her own BWHAHAHA! She's left a lot of books, clothes and other trinket around it and spends most time hanging about on it when she's in the TARDIS.
why is your doctor called the one who shone?
✨Character Tag
Might as well write out what her whole deal is! I never did because I wanted to write her "introduction episode", but I'm really not a great writer. I'm just an ideas guy, really!
She's called "the one who shone" because her regeneration existed briefly, yet joyously! Her energy was infectious when she existed and brightened everyone's day. This regeneration also existed briefly for atypical reasons. She is a paradoxical regeneration, a regeneration that exists, but isn't supposed to.
The Master had created this Frankenstein's Monster type of Weeping Angel... called The Impossible Angel. Unlike regular angels that feed on "unlived potential" time energy, THIS Angel feeds on the impossible. It feeds on what never should be, paradoxes! paradoxical time energy! You are send to several time periods at once, split into pieces but still visibly whole. You are an impossible part of time and with every breath you take, time decays around you, changing things in ways that were not meant to be.
This creation had touched the Doctor and pulled out a regeneration that was never meant to exist. And since the Doctor is so old, and can live for so very long, her existing in and of itself as a paradox, is enough for the impossible angel to keep on growing stronger and collect more paradoxical time energy than it's actually able to hold.
It is a time bomb, literally! And when it goes off, it resets the entire universe!
Since THIS Doctor is the reason the whole universe is at risk at all, she figured she should find a way to focus this reset on her regeneration alone. Make it so that she never existed in the first place. With some tinkering and quick, smart thinking, she succeeded with her plans, resetting the universe to before she was created and destroying the poor, Impossible Angel in the process.
Elisa still remembers her. Very well, in fact. Every minute she'd spend with her. But when she encounters the Doctor again and sees him stepping out of his TARDIS, she is quickly walked past, making it clear that the woman she knew is truly, gone forever.
I had way more ideas for her story, like her introduction and other episode ideas, but I'll leave those under the cut!
Ok now that Doctor Who is on hiatus (welcome wilderness 2) I'm just going to pretend my Doctor Who girlies are canon

I do think time will be a little kinder to RTD2 than most currently imagine (especially since I strongly suspect part if not all of the reason he got the boot was for being 'too woke' for Disney, the increasingly reactionary BBC, and the increasingly reactionary UK public). And when that happens we can look at The Reality War as the absurd CGI cocaine flameout it so clearly is, the Silver Nemesis of its generation, surrounded by episodes that range from 'mediocre but an interesting idea' to 'genuinely pretty good'. You know, like all Doctor Who.
"This is the worst era of Doctor Who" no. There is no worst era of Doctor Who. All eras of Doctor Who are bad in their own unique way.
And by the way, anyone who says that the reason Doctor Who has been cancelled again is just down to bad writing choices and has nothing to do with the massive international algorithmically-driven hate campaign that has been gunning for this show since the second it decided to star a woman (and then kicked into overdrive the second it decided to star a black person) is out of their gourd.
I can (and will) criticize a lot of RTD's decisions for this series, but the one thing I won't is that he didn't give those people an inch of ground. And he lost his job for it. That's more important than some dodgy scripts.
a shitton of the dw fandom didn't ever want a woman to be the doctor, no matter what they claimed, they didn't Actually want what that would mean. They didn't want it to be anything more than some kind of symbolic casting. They wanted a woman to act out the lines but they didn't want whichever woman it was to effect the comfortable narrative the show had fed people for fifty-fiveish years. That's too much woman smell for them, apparently.
Because 13 having a woman cast was an actual part of the narrative. It was something that the doctor, like fans, wanted to ignore and not be an issue but it Was an issue.
13 is like a cautionary tale against toxic femininity. Twelve asked their next regeneration to live laugh love, basically, and in trying to do so Thirteen ended up with a neurosis that mirrors a real patriarchal standard where that's All women are supposed to do. 13 had an actual narrative reason to act this way because of what Twelve said, it wasn't human socialisation, it was an active choice on her part to try and live up to what twelve wished as he died and then the narrative broke her down because of it and showed all the ways that that kind of sentiment is toxic as hell.
Then there was another sect of specifically female fans that were actively angry that Thirteen wasn't their chance to live vicariously and act like the boot on somebody's neck through her as some kind of messed up power fantasy. They wanted toxic masculnity, they wanted her treating people like shit to microdose on it themselves. And yes, I literally had somebody point blank tell me this on one of my posts in like 2019. They were Furious they'd not been given a proxy to relate to who treats people like shit. This is extra wild because while the doctor is many things, they are rarely an example of toxic masculinity.
Side note: Toxic masculinity is not bad because it's a man thing. It's bad because it's bad. Feminism is not there so girls get to be that awful too because #equality. Feminism is there so Nobody gets to be that awful. Wanting a woman in a kids show to act disgustingly as a power trip is wild and just crappy in general.
Instead, 13's (actor's) womanhood actually effected the narrative. But also, it made it abundantly clear sometimes just How casting a woman made basic dw staples come across Really different just by virtue of a woman being there. And people hated that, too. It wasn't supposed to effect the story, right?
Basic doctor and master toxicity and monstrosity? Suddenly there are think pieces on how uniquely awful this all is specifically for that pair, apparently. And they were bad think pieces. And this was just bog standard usual BS for the characters. Frankly, even, it was less awful than what ten and simm did to each other by miles.
imo, the backlash to 13 and dhawan!master was also rather condescending to the audience? This was all absolutely portrayed as awful between them the entire way through and only people who Genuinely think that all television is to be viewed through a lens of giving good representation and not telling stories would ever think the show was saying this was good. And tween/teen audiences (it's basically a YA show) are Not stupid. I was that age during the era of simm and ten, and funnily enough my teenage brain very easily worked out how fucked up their dynamic was even Through the yearning heart eyes they were throwing at each other. To be blunt, it's never that complicated. The most murky it got was with Twissy but owing to the fact that the master was the woman and the doctor the guy, their messy toxic moments are rarely dragged out in fandom to be condemned. People even backbend to make twelve into an abusive monster and ignore Missy's actions. Because man monster woman good, apparently.
Spydoc's narrative actually fairly consistently follows a story of intimate partner violence. Risk of death is Shockingly high when a partner chooses to leave the abuser. Risk of death practically doubles if a man puts his hands around a woman's neck (even when she does grin like a shark as he does it). You could almost view it as an allegory for domestic violence. Not an advertisement. An allegory. But again, killing each other is just basic between those two. It was the casting that made people flinch, and not Only because of the woman issue. The racism being thrown around about Dhawan was and probably still is in some spaces was fucking rancid.
spydoc is inherently uncomfortable in ways so many other best enemies pairs aren't. The casting effected the viewer's perception of the dynamic and made it uncomfortable. A woman being there and following the same dynamic of the men before her made what was easy to digest previously a tough pill to swallow simply by virtue of them Not being any different.
DW is just so much more Comfortable for people when everybody is a white man to lots of people. Adding women complicated things and massive chunks of fandom didn't want a woman to have any kind of noticeable effect on the narrative of the show or on how they had to analyse it, but it Did! Because of course it did! It had to! There was no way it couldn't!
When 13 acts differently because she's forced to because of her body, it was uncomfortable and annoying because suddenly it's not a foregone conclusion that the doctor will swan in and be The Guy in the room because the universe won't forget she's The Woman in the room. When 13 doesn't act differently because she's the same person as every man before her it makes people uncomfortable because the audience views her differently and how she's acting and treated Because she's a girl. Even the things that are the same are different.
So many people spent so much time angry that they never cast a woman and when they did, they hated that they didn't ignore that they'd cast a woman to make everything as comfortable (read: male) as it had been before.
As a woman. Honestly. Why should my discomfort not be portrayed on screen?
and the winner of superwholock is officially??? no one. we all lost. congrats team
some ppl on that Doctor Who post are being like "but it's also misogyny towards 13's era that they cancelled it" and I have to say, as someone who was actually there and has actually seen her episode viewership numbers...nope! no. actually that's not what happened. Yes 13th doctor episodes had lower average viewership than prior doctors, and yes that's probably misogyny to a degree. However, they still had anywhere between 4 and 10 times the amount of viewership than Ncuti's episodes averaged. 13's episodes (and I know this cos I've looked) at their lowest still had around 2-5 million viewers (average). According to rumoured figures from Disney, Ncuti's episodes averaged between HALF a million and 1.5 million. While there aren't official numbers from Disney, Ncuti himself joked about the view count on SNL so suffice to say there's more than a little truth to those abysmal numbers. Not to mention Disney bought Doctor Who as a viable product during 13's era. As in Doctor Who, even with 13's lower than average viewership, was seen as a profitable enough venture for the biggest media company in the biz. It was ONLY when the show was lead primarily by people of colour that the numbers dropped to the point that the show, as of time of writing, has been dropped by it's two major production houses (Bad Wolf and Disney). So, no. The misogyny that plagued 13's era, while problematic for many MANY reasons that I've written whole essays about is not the reason the show is currently AWOL. Racism is the reason. Racism. Let's not detract from that by being revisionist, thanks.
rtd's instagram post btw:

wake up. doctor who’s corpse is still warm. guess i’ll eat breakfast while it’s lying there.
my feeling with regards to the billie piper cliffhanger was like 'well it's stupid but i suppose if this is what it takes to secure the show's ongoing existence it will be worth it'. consequently i now feel comfortable saying: that was simply fucking stupid wasn't it
