i like how the thirteenth doctor knows her life would be easier if the master was dead but ALSO knows that if she kills him he "Wins" which is completely intolerable. so she just keeps handing guns to random girls when he's in the room and hopes he says something nasty enough that they do the job for her
With the 8 episode format Ncuti should've been the first modern Doctor to have the seasons main character developing arc be about HIM. We've just had a doctor forced to regenerate into the master and then a previous face, we've had years of explorations of the doctors inner darkness and past demons. Ncuti could've been a triumphant story of somebody who's been drowning in their own dark and dower history realise the future really is something new for them and they can be somebody who coexists with their trauma but embraces the new. He starts with fake smiles, forced joy, but over his tenure learns to love himself again. Conrads story could've played into this. Once again the doctor is forced to believe they're a boring human, but instead of mourning the possibility of an easy life with normal friends he's like NO!! I love being weird!! I love being different and alien and exploring and being kind wherever I can because no day is the same and I can make each the best one ever!! We could've had a doctor with a true inspiring arc and I miss him every day.
i like him
"they made the brig a cyberman" girl, they made the brig the cyberman who couldn't be converted!!! all the speeches and tears about danny all that love is not an emotion love is a promise and he will NEVER hurt her and then the clouds disperse and they turn around and there is the brigadier and the daughter he saved. all those years after nicholas courtney died and they paid tribute to him and his character—the longest-spanning character besides the doctor and the master btw—in such an astonishingly beautiful way
part of the charm of unit was this idea that it wasn't just the doctor on his own anymore. that he could go off and visit other worlds and other galaxies and frolick about through the universe to his heart's content and there would always be another line of defence on earth. unit is the representation of the people who volunteer to save the world, and the brig is the representation of unit.
and then here and now, in the present, the dead are rising against the living and there's this sense of terrible dread because the living are hopelessly outnumbered and of course they have to keep that suspense until the threat is over.
but then they bring out the brig and they say to the audience, they say look. look at this man. even at the darkest moment of this story, there was hope, and hope was this man. because even among that great and terrible army of the dead, there were ones like this man, who resisted the call, who made the other choice. who protected humanity.
the doctor looks at him and says earth's darkest hour, and mine. where else would you be? because all those times the earth didn't have the doctor, it had the brigadier.
some people see cyberbrig as a betrayal of the man. i think there can be no higher commendation.

when companions say "my doctor" they mean the incarnation(s) they've travelled with, but when the master/missy says "my doctor" they mean that possessively, the doctor is theirs to have and theirs to kill, no one else can have the doctor
do you see my vision?
biggest dw fandom pet peeve is how many people will look at this character who cycles through dozens of highly earnest and meaningful relationships with equal intensity and go "the writers have gravely mischaracterized dr who by suggesting they would ever love anyone outside of (life altering friendship #29)"
cant get over this sorry. all of me is invited. please welcome in my evil bodysnatching wife who wants to eat u like a prawn
“it’s my party and all of me is invited” is a gorgeous line in every conceivable way. like just in general i love it but also there’s something about “all of me is invited” as it pans over to to his ex/best friend/enemy because there’s an implication that she is part of him. their relationship to each other is something that he is choosing to indulge himself in as he throws his “i’m committing suicide party” because she is a part of him. their friendship is a part of him and is as synonymous with his identity as bow ties and long scarves. how cute is that?

i think that in the sound of drums/last of the time lords, from the master's perspective the doctor is like 1) "it's all just in your head" response to mental illness when the master confides about the drums 2) implies that the only reason they should be friends now is cuz they're the only ones left (ya i guess you're fine when i have no other choice anymore....) 3) is lowkey condescending and patronizing with that whole "i forgive you" like his forgiveness is so powerful it's gonna fix him (quite literally looking down on him) no wonder he killed himself
I sincerely hope John Simm knows after playing the Harold Saxon Master almost 20 years ago he's still the unofficial mascot of political turmoil in the UK
The Doctors biggest fan :3
i wish more stuff looked like that season of doctor who where they were smearing vaseline on the camera
the noticeable overexposure of the film coupled with the tactile "ugliness" of the environments and costumes looks so good to me. genuinely dreamy
I am an idiot for not reblogging this when the prime minister resigned again

put jo grant in school reunion and not only would you have wonderful yuri between her and sarah jane smith but also she would say with complete confidence that there's no need to fight over the doctor because he's homosexual. in fact, if he'd like to have a tryst with the brigadier while he's on earth again then jo has his phone number and can call him up right now! a pity the master's not around ):
Now that Doctor Who is over for the foreseeable future is it safe to talk about how a lot of y’all talk about Bill and her ending by focusing on her “death” more than her actual affirming queer/black ending where she transcends death and lives a full life with the woman she loves because you deep down cannot talk about black/queer characters outside of the context of their suffering so you focus on how ‘she deserved better’ to make yourselves feel like good guys - or are we not ready yet?
