Alhaitham and kaveh’s final scene in the archon quest,,, oh boy
Kaveh being upset that the house is destroyed and holding that, as the owner of the house, alhaitham should be rightfully upset, and that he’s essentially just a ‘helper’ in this situation, which alhaitham calls out since it’s THEIR possessions that are affected, it’s THEIR home! The divide that kaveh puts between them, with him as a tenant and alhaitham as the home owner, and the way that alhaitham instantly elevates them to both sharing the responsibility to be equal…. yeah
Kaveh being distraught that the things they both depend on in the home, and the home itself, are ruined, mentioning how easily destruction can be wreaked, so all these things have fragility, whereas alhaitham views this destruction as an inconvenience to be righted in the grand scheme of things – the dichotomy of how they handle their emotions, especially in relation to each other!!!! The ruined house = their relationship metaphor is driving me up the WALLLLLL
And this dichotomy in the difference of their sentimentality, how they handle their emotions, being what upsets kaveh (at least more explicitly in the CN)?? They’re always faltering in understanding each other on this fundamental level which out of everything is the most important! Alongside the idea of ‘home’ being so essential to kaveh’s character, ofc a place he calls home being destroyed, even if just for the moment, is going to upsetting for him
Alhaitham mentioning that people can seek to change their situation, but kaveh saying AGAIN that it’s hard for people to change and that anguish is a reliable source of inspiration to him, which is essential as an artist, with art being so fundamental to him
but not only this, in regards to his and alhaitham's relationship, anguish is difficult for him to let go of in general because of how engrained it is into his person; he relies on anguish to propel him forwards so much so that it shapes him, and if he gave this up, he'd have to relearn not only himself and who he is without something so defining but also what that meant for him and alhaitham? like, can he not imagine what a relationship without tension between them would be like anymore?? HELP
no because alhaitham reaching out and understanding kaveh's position and saying that he’s genuinely happy kaveh is able to justify things for himself, the reasons why he believes the things he does, whereas before this split in their views was a source of contention for them, with kaveh giving alhaitham reasons he follows his ideals with alhaitham being unconvinced?
and the fact that he expressed this kaveh directly and doubled down on this to me really showcases these little progressions in their relationship, even if kaveh isn't ready to take this as sincerity yet. They’re at the stage where they can begin to accept the tensions brewing beneath the surface…? PLEASE I CANNOT
Alhaitham explicitly going out of his way to help kaveh through actions (wisdom being shared through incommunicable mediums is so haikaveh coded) being a skill he’s going to master?? As in acknowledging the sentiment kaveh attaches to their belongings, as in,, piecing together the house once more,, as in,, working towards the mending of their relationship!?!?!?
And kaveh frantically trying to attribute this to the transaction-based nature of their relationship but coming up SHORT for once because alhaitham is helping kaveh with his own things, like yes baby, he’s waking up finally!!!
And then him willing to help alhaitham patch up his own books as a way of assembling the house together, like ‘little decisions’ like this are working in tandem to bring them forwards to a new path of understanding each other oh okay,,,
Kaveh hearing the word danger and volunteering himself to take on that responsibility, guys it’s a parade of providence all over again :( alhaitham saying that this is because kaveh is gaining confidence from the self-assuredness of the pillars of deshret, but kaveh saying it’s because he’s alhaitham’s senior and it’s only natural that he take responsibility?
This reminds me of when in a parade of providence, alhaitham comments that kaveh postures himself as an upperclassman when he doesn’t behave with the sagacity of one when it comes to self-preservation, and kaveh takes this to mean that he has to ‘earn’ the right to be alhaitham’s senior, which lmao is NOT what alhaitham was saying
and now here, rather than pointing out that any issues he has with how kaveh perceives the senior-junior dynamic, alhaitham says that he appreciates kaveh’s sentiment in looking out for him, man,,, there’s so much to unpack here, but then alhaitham stepping up to bear the same responsibility as kaveh-?
and then the rules of the chess game being that they have to work TOGETHER on equal footing in order to gain victory, aka true wisdom, OH OKAY!!

The key to the trial being that alhaitham and kaveh have to work with each other by ensuring they reach the end together otherwise it goes against the rules… like okay :DDD
kaveh and alhaitham are designed as functioning opposites that make up a whole picture, their philosophies and respective fields of study are on opposite sides of the mirror, but each side of the mirror is integral to the other side, like the black and white of the chess board
the idea of their movements in this chess game is so interesting, like they're on different paths that can't correlate but their destination is the same, and victory is only gained by reaching the end together. them working in tandem rather than opposition is achieving wisdom rather than operating in the bounds of knowledge; who's in the right doesn't matter so long as they're able to unite on a mutual front!!
obviously the whole "asexuals write good smut" thing is overblown and not universal but i do think it's funny how many ace people ive met whose approach seems to be "well if nothing is sexy then everything is." like yeah i do find all people about as attractive as a pile of rocks but maybe this means i can find the eroticism in that pile of rocks. a pile of rocks could be kink. everything is possible.
